Dear Ms Byrne

Freedom of Information Act Request 440410

Thank you for your recent request received 1 February. Your request was actioned under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in which you requested the following:

1.  The number of young people who became apprentices through the Liverpool Futures programme in 2013

2.  The number of young people who became apprentices through the Liverpool Futures programme in 2014

3.  The number of young people who became apprentices through the Liverpool Futures programme in 2015

Response:

Liverpool City Council holds information relevant to your request and can confirm the following:

·  In response to all elements of your request we can confirm that Liverpool Futures is a Community Interest Company established in 2012.The Company is predominantly owned by the Chamber of Commerce, with the City Council a minority shareholder.

The Company was set up to support an increase in apprenticeship numbers, particularly in those sectors where employers struggle to offer a full apprenticeship framework, due to the time restrictions on contracts. The company delivered a significant number of apprenticeships in the first year of operation. At this point, the apprenticeship landscape changed, and it was recognised that there were other new arrangements that would tackle the issues previously identified.

In order to avoid duplication, the decision was taken to enable others to deliver apprenticeships, outside of Liverpool Futures. Consequently the CIC has not delivered any apprenticeships in 2013/14 or 2015.

Liverpool City apprenticeship figures remain high compared with other cities, with over 100 apprenticeships created across the City Council since 2011 and over 230 created through the Mayoral Apprenticeship Scheme since 2012.

The number of apprenticeship vacancies across the city rose by 51% towards the end of 2014, as compared with the same period over 2013.

This concludes our response

The City Council will consider appeals, referrals or complaints in respect of your response and these must be submitted these in writing to within 28 days of receiving your response.

The matter will be dealt with by an officer who was not previously involved with the response and we will look to provide a response within 28 working days.
