Location: This workshop will be available via Webinarfor you to access at your own computer (or via telephone). There will be video available. You willbe emailed the link and telephone number, as well as the PowerPoint file, a few days before the session.
How to Register:
In order to meet the requirements for offering PSNA-approved contact hours, there are
several steps that must be followed.
Please complete each step to ensure that we are able to offer you the 2 contact hours.
1. You must participate in all 2 hours of the session. Partial credits cannot be
awarded.
2. You will be asked to fill out a new demographic form for 2014-2015 required by our funder prior to your participation in this training update; some of you have already done this (Thank You!).
3. You will be emailed the PowerPoint presentation a few days prior to the training,
as well as the Webinar link and call-in number.
4. You must attend the training via Webinar on your own computer (or via
telephone), and sign the attestation (the attestation form link will be provided) that
you attended the seminar for the entire 2-hour session, no later than midnight, Wednesday, May20th.
5. After the training you will also be emailed a link to an evaluation form of the workshop training; you need to complete this evaluation form and return it no later than midnight, Wednesday, May 20th.
All steps must be completed in order to receive the 2 PSNA contact hours. We
appreciate your compliance with all of these steps and hope you will find the Training
Update to be helpful in your work!

Target Audience:
This training is for all registered nurses who work with older adults in Pennsylvania, and who completed the Geriatric Resource Nurse training provided by the Penn State site of the GEC-PA, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Behavioral Health and Aging Coalition, in either the Spring of 2011 or the Spring of 2013.
Goal:
It is the goal of this educational activity to assist registered nurses (GRNs) who provide care to older adults to understand how aging affects how medications are absorbed, distributed, and eliminated; common medications for common conditions of older adults, appropriate dosages, and their side effects and interactions; and evaluation and management of polypharmacy. This understanding will better assist these nurses in their management of their clients’ health and quality of life.
Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Describe pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as they relate to older adults
- Recognize common medications prescribed to older persons and their appropriate dosages, side effects, and drug-drug interactions
- Discuss evaluation and management of polypharmacy in older adults
