FREE CHILDCARE DURING CONFERENCES IN THE LUNCHROOM BY UWEC STUDENTS, LOOK FOR SIGNS!

Hudson Street and Lakeshore

It is imperative that if you pick up your child at the Hudson Street exit YOU MUST SLOW DOWN and be aware there are small and even big children who don’t always stop, look and listen before they cross the street to their parents. They are anxious to see parents and get home, rules get forgotten. So we depend on the adults to follow the rules and be safe for all. The road is narrow and when cars are parked on both sides of the street there is not much more room for traffic. There have been a couple of near misses. We don’t want tragedy to happen. Thank you for staying safe.

Thank you from Humane Society

Dear ECCHA Friends at Lakeshore Elementary and the Lakeshore PTO:

On behalf of Eau Claire County Humane Association, thank you very much for your kind donation. We are extremely grateful for your generosity, and so excited that we won your votes!

Supporting the Eau Claire County Humane Association is one of the most direct ways to improve the lives of animals in our community. Your donation not only helps the animals in our shelter, but other animals as well. We work hard to educate the public on responsible pet ownership and humane programs. We look forward to a day when all animals will have loving and caring forever homes.

Thank you, again! Your support is greatly appreciated!

Elise Bauer, Executive Director

February’s Read & Feed will be on Friday the 21st. The students & staff will vote during their lunch times on Thursday February 20 on the following three choices: Community Table, Beacon House and the 5 year old child in Gilmanton who was injured in a house fire this past weekend. Fourth graders came up with the ideas of where to contribute the money raised from the Read & Feed. The students have really embraced the opportunity to choose where their donations go. Thank you parents for supporting them.

Art at the Community Table

Some of our Lakeshore Artists have artwork displayed at the Community Table in Eau Claire from now until the end of March. The Community Table is a non-profit organization that serves one meal each day, 365 days a year on a no-questions asked basis. Anyone can join the table during meal time. The organization relies on volunteers (groups or individuals) to prepare and serve each meal. Our student’s artwork will brighten up the walls of the dining room for the guests and workers alike. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back to their community. Artwork displayed are: Winter Collages from Madasyn, Matthew, Aryana, Prince and Zoey; Winter Cardinals from Will, Natalie, Javarias, Christian and Carly; Watercolor Winter Trees from Emily, Vawhuar, Siri, Jessica and Mason. Congratulations to each of you!

Artist in Residence

February 24-28 Lakeshore welcomes Artist-in-Residence Randy Peterson! Randy Peterson involves students in a combination of creative writing and musical performance. It begins by applying the student’s writing skills to the creation of lyrics and ends with them performing their songs in a recorded CD. With our new Lucy Calkins literacy writing curriculum that your children are doing, the song writing fits right in with the curriculum. Each student in K-5 will be participating in grade level groups to create their group song. Each grade level is divided into two groups and will meet with Randy three times. The MAPE and Target Times are not affected by the group sessions. The groups will be meeting in our library and classroom teachers will attend each session. This is being paid for by a donation Lakeshore received from Wal-Mart via the Tafle family at Lakeshore and they wanted all students at Lakeshore to benefit from the donation. Mrs. Miner has had Randy Peterson at her former school and was impressed with his creativity and skill in working with students. It will be a wonderful experience for your children. We are excited to bring this opportunity to our students.
