Middle School Science

Fredericksburg Academy, the leading co-ed, PK-12, independent school in Fredericksburg, Virginia is seeking a full-time science Middle School Science in August 2018. Fredericksburg Academy’s Middle School (grades six through eight) provides students with an age appropriate, challenging college preparatory curriculum in a nurturing environment. The primary focus will be teaching General Science and Life Sciences to sixth and seventh graders, as well as being the lead chaperone on the seventh grade overnight science field trip. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency and creativity in integrating technology in their instruction and believe that hands-on experiences are critical to developing a deep understanding of scientific concepts. Successful teaching candidates will have developed a thoughtful teaching practice, hold a deep love and understanding of Middle School students, and understand that teachers serve as role models and educators both inside and outside the classroom. FA is committed to providing students with real world problems through the science curriculum by creating learning opportunities that focus on issues of sustainability, maintaining the school's native garden, and creating STEM opportunities in the school's MakerSpace. Flexibility, teamwork, and a sense of humor are required.

The successful candidate will have a passionate commitment to working with young people in and out of the classroom and a deep commitment to the art of teaching. Fredericksburg Academy is a bring-your-own-device school—a high level of technological proficiency and demonstrated use of technology within the learning environment is preferred.Other related duties will include participating in Science Department meetings and contributing to Science Department projects and initiatives. Additional responsibilities include serving as a faculty advisor to eight to ten Middle School students.Fredericksburg Academy seeks teacher candidates who can also serve as coaches during one of our three athletic seasons or support other co-curricular activities.

The successful candidate should have one to three years of science teaching experience at the secondary school level or the equivalent in a related area or field. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred.
