Frances’ diary for 1985
Jan 1 – Cold & clear. We watched the New Year’s parade. I cracked black walnuts. Went to Gladys’ & got pictures. Worked on quilt.
Jan 2 – I worked getting the quilt ready for the frames. Got started putting it in the frame.
Jan 3 – Nice day. I went to the dentist. Had a tooth filled. Got a lot done at tacking my quilt.
Jan 4 – Nice day. We went in to Olan Mills & got our picture taken. I worked on the quilt. Charley & Chris & the kids & Evelyn came in the eve.
Jan 5 – I fixed waffles for everyone. Chris & I took kids & went shopping. I got 2 bed pillows. Charley took Evelyn to the plane. They went to Gladys’ in the eve.
Sunday, Jan 6 – Nice day. I started quilting on the quilt. We stayed home all day.
Jan 7 – Nice day. Chris & the kids left. I fixed kraut burgers. Bobby & Pam & Pat came up for supper – their 13th ann.
Jan 8 – It snowed out of the east all day. We went to Wellington. Norm, Norma, Jean & Ray all came up for kraut burgers.
Jan 9 – Cold & cloudy. We went to Ft.Collins. Doyle went iin for a check up. I got a blouse at S. A. I quilted on the tie quilt.
Jan 10 – It snowed last nie & most of the day. Charley left. I quilted a lot. Kevin H. came up in the eve. 5° this morn.
Jan 11 - 12° below this morn. I quilted.
Jan 12 – I quilted & cleaned house.
Sunday, Jan 13 – Cold & clear. Gladys & girls came for dinner. I have Cindy a coat. Clarence Pettit died.
Jan 14 – Arthritis was bad in my hand. Couldn’t quilt. We went over to see Colleen & Fran. Mailed Mary’s pkg.
Jan 15 – Nice day but windy. I washed. We went in and got govt. cheese, milk & butter. I quilted.
Jan 16 – We went to Ault to the bank, on to Ft.Collins. Done my hair.
Jan 17 – I cleaned the kitchen. I went to Clarence Pettit’s funeral with Jean. Jean called to say Erlene had died.
Jan 18 – Nice day. We went in to Olan Mills & looked at the picture proofs.
Jan 19 – Mitch & Nancy came up & spent the day. It snowed awful hard. Gladys & girls were here.
Sunday, Jan 20 – Cold. I was in bed with the flu. Barry came & said he TV was stolen.
Jan 21 –I was down with the flu. It snowed. Mary called & said she had heard from Russell.
Jan 22 – Still down.
Jan 23 – Still down. Doyle went to Ft.Collins, got juice & stuff.
Jan 24 – Nice day. Up and around a bit. Opal brot donuts. Toni was here.
Jan 25 – Felt horrible. Charley was here a while.
Jan 26 – I was up some. Doyle went to 2 farm auctions. Barry was here.
Sunday, Jan 27 – I felt some better.
Jan 28 – Cold & foggy. I quilted some.
Jan 29 – Cold & clear. I mopped the kitchen. Made chili. Quilted some.
Jan 30 – Zero this morn. I quilted. I cut out a shirt for Kenneth.
Jan 31 – 18° below this morn. I sewedon Kenneth’s shirt. Doyle went in & got a blood test & gro.
Feb 1 – I sewed on Ken’s shirt. I felt better, quilted some. 29° this morn.
Feb 2 – Doyle went to Billy Wilson’s auction.
Sunday, Feb 3 – Cold. Millers came down with a petition.
Feb 4 – Some warmer. We went to Wellington. I mailed Ken’s pkg. I worked with the quilt.
Feb 5 – I done Elma’s hair. Then mine. I quilted.
Feb 6 – I cleaned in the kitchen, quilted. Charley got here.
Feb 7 – I finished quilting the tie quilt. Took it out of the frame. Doyle & Barry went after coal. Barry was here for dinner.
Feb 8 – We went in to Ft.Collins. I got a blouse & sox & panties.
Feb 9 – I done a big wash. Gladys came up & got a chair to recover. It snowed like crazy.
Sunday, Feb 10 –Windy. Charley came in the afternoon. We stayed home.
Feb 11 – I worked on the quilt edging.
Feb 12 – I ironed. Made donuts & took some to Schnugs & to Opal, and to Angie. Doyle went to water meeting.
Feb 13 – Cold & cloudy. We went to Ft.Collins. Went to G. W. & S. A. I done Elma’s hair. I finished binding my quilt.
Feb 14 – I worked for Carol Hall at the hotel 7 hours. I read & embroidered all day.
Feb 15 – We went to Ft.Collins. I got a blue bedspread. We went to S. W. & got meat.
Feb 16 – Nancy & Mitch & the kids were here all day.
Feb 17 – Gladys & girls came up for dinner. We got 6 roosters at Slahneks. Bobby & Pam were here. Doyle gave them boots.
Feb 18 – I cut out my Japanese silk dress. Worked at the Hotel 2 to 4. Charley came.
Feb 19- I made myself 2 pr of slacks. Catching a cold.
Feb 20 –I worked 6 hrs. Got a terrible cold & sore throat.
Feb 21 – I worked 10 till 4. Still sick. Took Cindy her sewing machine.
Feb 22 – Snowy & cold. We went to Ault & Ft. Collins. Got groceries. I got a pattern.
Feb 23 – Doyle went to the machinery auction. I sewed.
Sunday, Feb 24 – We stayed home. I sewed.
Feb 25 – I worked 10:00 till 1:30. Sewed some. Charley got here. Cindy came up & got a zipper.
Feb 26 –I worked 9:30 – 1:30. Sewed some. Called the Dr.
Feb 27 – Doyle went after my medicine. I worked 10 till 2:00. Sewed some.
Feb 28 – I worked 9 till 1:30.
Mar 1 – I done a big washing. We went over to Nunn to look at Foster’s machinery. I cut Jeannette’s hair.
Mar 2 – Doyle went to Foster’s sale. I cleaned porch. Gladys & Angie came up & we dressed 4 roosters.
Sunday, Mar 3 – Cold & snowy. We stayed home.
Mar 4 – I worked 10 til 2:30. Ironed after I came home. Opal & Ed came down in the eve.
Mar 5 – We went to Ault & sent income tax in. I took Bobby ¼ turkey & dressing. I gave Elma a perm.
Mar 6 – I worked 9:15 till 5:00. Doyle went to the auction & got a butcher hog.
Mar 7 – Doyle butchered hog. I worked 10 – 1:45.
Mar 8 – I cleaned house. Mary called & said Russell was coming. Angie & I picked him up at midnight.
Mar 9 – Doyle took Russell to Gladys’ to get his bag. Angie & Cindy came & got Russell for a show.
Sunday, Mar 10- We went to LaPorte. I gave Grace Warren a perm. We went to a flea mkt.
Mar 11 – Doyle & Russell went to Nunn to get stuff. I went to see Dr. Foster for my throat.
Mar 12 – Cindy came up & we made kraut burgers & donuts. Gene S. was here all afternoon. Cindy took Russell to Ft.Collins.
Mar 13 – (blank)
Mar 14 – I sewed on my blouse.
Mar 15 – I done a huge washing. Doyle & Russell went to Nunn to get wood.
Mar 16 – I ironed, cleaned house. Russell went with Angie.
Sunday, Mar 17 – We went to LaPorte, and to JAX. I got Ken a cap. Russell went with Cindy.
Mar 18- We went down to Gladys’ & loaded a V.W. body. I made cookies. Doyle went to Lodge.
Mar 19 – We drug Cindy’s car up here.
Mar 20 – I done Elma’s hair. Colored and done my hair. Angie was here for dinner.
Mar 21 – Left Denver about 10:30. Got to Kenneth’s at 6. Had supper at Nancy’s.
Mar 22 – April 6 (blank – gone to Massachusetts to visit Kenneth and his boys.)
Sunday, Apr 7 – We went to Old No. Bridge. Had nice Easter dinner.
Apr 8 – I stayed home & packed. Nancy picked me up & we went to Legal for supper.
Apr 9 – I left Boston at 4. Got to Denver at 8:30. Spent an hr in St. Louis. Cindy & Russell met me. Spent morning at Mart.
Apr 10 – I was real tired. Didn’t sleep last night. Done a big washing. Dowells were here.
Apr 11 – Beautiful day. I cleaned yard. Cindy came up. We had a long talk. Charley got here.
Apr 12 – I cleaned yard & unpacked my suitcase.
Apr 13 – Gladys & Angie came up. I done Elma’s hair. Cleaned upstairs.
Sunday, Apr 14 – Nice day. Went to LaPorte. Had a terrible fire. Had the fire dept. It was set by the R.R.
Apr 15 – I was too tired to wash. Cindy came up, worked on her car. I went to Gladys’ & we fixed invitations.
Apr 16 – Nice day. I washed. Helped Doyle in the garage. Old hen hatched.
Apr 17 – Worked in the yard. Done the ironing.
Apr 18 – Cleaned upstairs. Bad electric storm at night.
Apr 19 – Cold & windy. Chris & the kids were here for breakfast. Angie wrecked her car. I made an oatmeal cake.
Apr 20 – We all went to the auction over at Shauleneks. I bought some fruit jars. Angie took Carl & Russell to a movie.
Sunday, Apr 21 – Gladys & Angie came up. We gave perms. Chris & Doyle went to LaPorte. The kids went home.
Apr 22 – Cool. I washed. Mary called.
Apr 23 – I ironed. Cleaned house. Cindy came up & got Russell. I planed row of corn.
Apr 24 – They moved Charley’s trailers. Charley went home. Cleaned. Cindy & Russell came in the eve. Kenneth called.
Apr 25 – Cloudy, rainy & some snow. I made cookies. Jerry Mitchell died. Snowed like crazy.
Apr 26 – Still snowing. Snowed till noon. We went to Collins. I got 12 perms. Cindy brot Russell home.
Apr 27 – I made 7 little pans of cinnamon rolls. We went in after Russell’spills. Cindy & Jeanie came & got Russell.
Sunday, Apr 28 – We just stayed home. I cut out strips for quilt.
Apr 29 – We planted garden. I went to Gerry Mitchell’s funeral. It rained. Water went off.
Apr 30 – Nice day. I cleaned yard & cut out quilt pieces.
May 1 – I sewed on Kate’s quilt. I cleaned yard. Cindy brot Russell back.
May 2 – I cleaned the bedroom. Cut out pieces.
May 3 – I went to Ft.Collins with Opal. Got the top for our cake. Got groceries. Russell took the Dart.
May 4 – We went to Wellington to garage sales. I bought a GE TV from Mike U. We brot it out. Cindy brot Russell out. He borrowed $15.00 from me.
Sunday, May 5 – Cooler. I went in to Gladys’ and got cheese. Went by Lyon’s garage sale.
May 6 – I done a huge washing. Planted garden corn. Charley came about 10:30.
May 7 – I ironed. Cut out quilt pieces. I fixed Pam’s birthday dinner. Gladys & Angie came up too.
May 8 – We set traps & caught a skunk. Doyle shot it.
May 9 – I sewed some on the quilt. Cut out a lot. I shampooed the rug.
May 10 – Cindy & Russell came for dinner. I hurt my thumb in the fan. It rained some. Opal & Renee came by. I paid her $100 for our cake.
May 11 – Wind blew terrible. We went to the VFW garage sale.
Sunday, May 12 – Cool & cloudy. We went to LaPorte. Russell came by.
May 13 – Cold & damp. I re-planted garden. Mary & David got as far as Gladys’ and Bobby’s.
May 14 – Gladys brot Mary & David out for dinner. Cindy came after school. David took my car to Bobby’s.
May 15 – David & Mary came for dinner. Cindy came out. We went over to the McConnell place & to Pierce. Mary & David went to Bobby’s for supper.
May 16 – Cindy & Mary went out for dinner. Doyle & I went to Ft.Collins & got groc. Mary & David went to Angie’s for supper.
May 17 – Mary made sandwiches for Angie’s party. They broke my platter.
May 18 – Mary & Gladys went to town. We went down to Gladys’ & played trivia. Russell got a motorcycle.
Sunday, May 19 – We had a picnic at Gladys’. The law came out & arrested Russell.
May 20 –Pam came up & got Mary & David and took them to the limo. I made curtains for upstairs. Opal came for the suitcases. It rained.
May 21 – I cleaned the so. room upstairs. We went to Ft.Collins. I made curtains for the so. room.
May 22 – I went up to Turners. Made myself a pr. ff navy blue slacks. It rained.
May 23 –I cut out pieces for a star quilt. Mary called early. I done Elma’s hair.
May 24 – I gave Freida B. a perm. Done a big washing.
May 25 – I ironed & cleaned house.
Sunday, May 26 –I picked up my free ham. Ola & Irene & Laura came. Pam came for Ola.
May 27 – I fixed dinner. Gladys & the girls came up. Pam came after Ola. Here & I went to Gladys’.
May 28 – I cleaned house. Seldon & Mary got here. We went over to Harold’s.
May 29 – We all went over around Nunn sightseeing. Harold & Shriley & Cart & Wanda came in the eve.
May 30 – Windy. I watered garden. I went to Cindy’s graduation with Gladys. Seldon & Mary went to Harold’s.
May 31 – I fixed a big supper. Bobby & Pam couldn’t make it. Kenneth & Nancy got here.
Jun 1 – Charley & Chris got here. Rosa Ellen & Tiny came for dinner. We had a good visit.
Sunday, Jun 2 –We had our 50th ann. party at Bobby & Pam’s. About 150 people came. Seldon & Mary left.
Jun 3 – Foggy & cool. Kenneth & Cindy went to get Russell. Car & Wanda, Harold & Shirley were here for supper. Kenneth & Nancy took Russell & Cindy to the airport.
Jun 4 – Ken & Nancy slept till noon. Talked to Mary & Cindy in the eve.
Jun 5 – Ken & Nancy & Ola & I went to Prairie View, Elliott, the home place, Pierce & Ft. Collins. Pam came after Ola. She leaves in the morning. Came by the C.G.
Jun 6 – I watered garden. Ken & Nancy went to EstesPark.
Jun 7 – Ken, Nancy & I went to Leadville, toured Baby Doe Tabor’s cabin. They went to Opal & Ed’s.
Jun 8 – We went to the square dance. Ken & Nancy had supper with Bobby & Pam. Ken brot Pop a new jacket & me a big suitcase.
Sunday, Jun 9 –I watered garden. Ken & Nan. went to Gladys’.
Jun 10 – Ken & Nancy left about 11:00. I watered. I went in to Wellington.
Jun 11 – I done a humungous washing. Doyle went to Ault. We went to Ft.Collins. Doyle got a blood test. Opal brot my stuff back. Kenneth called.
Jun 12 – I went to Wellington & got newspapers. Went by Gladys’. I ironed & Jeanette came up & I cut her hair.
Jun 13 – I worked in the garden. Gladys & Angie came up, brot a doggie.
Jun 14 – Hot. We built a doggie pen but it didn’t hold him. Liz came up & got wire.
Jun 15 – Hot. Charley fixed the brakes on my car. We went to garage sales.
Sunday, Jun 16 –We went to LaPorte, got groceries & to the Flea Mkt. Went to Bill Compton’s reception.
Jun 17 – I watered garden. Sewed on Kate’s quilt. Pat helped Doye. Pam came after him.
Jun 18 – Cool. Pat helped Doyle till noon. Bobby came after him. I baked a pie for Opal & Ed, but they were not home.
Jun 19 – I took the pie up to Turners. Watered garden & sewed on Kate’s quilt.
Jun 20 – Hot. I went to Wellington & got papers. Sewed on quilt. Sue Barnes came & got Hi Pockets. I watered. I worked at the Hotel 2 hrs.
Jun 21 – Gladys & I went to Ft.Collins. I got 10 yds of mat. at G.W., sheet for quilt.
Jun 22 – We rode in the Well-o-Rama parade as 50th ann. float. I sewed on the quilt. Watered garden. Went up to Opal’s to see her new rug.
Sunday, Jun 23 – We went garage saling. I got a tire. Gladys, Angie & Susan came up for dinner. I gave Gladys a perm.
Jun 24 – I washed. Awful hot. 100°. Finished putting Kate’s quilt top together. I worked on the State Quilt top.
Jun 25 – Cool. It rained. I ironed. I stamped State Quilt blocks. Mrs. McCoy & Sylvia came by. Doyle changed oil in the Malibu.
Jun 26 – I went in to mail my pkg, forgot my purse. Sewed on Gladys’ blazer.
Jun 27 – I made Gladys’ blazer. Imogene came in the eve.
Jun 28 – We went to Ft.Collins got groceries. I went to Hites for a check up. I helped Carol at the hotel 3 hrs. I watered garden.
Jun 29 – I went into Ft.Collins with Gladys & Angie. Dusted the garden for hoppers.
Sunday, Jun 30 – We went to the Flea Mkt. No good. Stayed home all afternoon.
Jul 1 – I went up to Opals & worked on a quilt top. It rained hard.
Jul 2 – Imade Gladys a red blazer. Sprinkled the garden with Sevin. Liz was here to get a baler.
Jul 3 – I tied Kate’s quilt. Doyle & Pat went to Ault.
Jul 4 – We had a picnic dinner at Gladys’. They came up and shot their guns.
Jul 5 – I edged 2 sides of Kate’s quilt. I stayed at the Hotel for Carol until 9:00.
Jul 6 – Hot. I finished edging the quilt. Mopped the kitchen.
Sunday, Jul 7 – Hot. We went to LaPorte. Manfred was here. I shut my finger in the car door.
Jul 8 – Pam & Bobby came & got their car. I worked on Gladys’ brown blazer.
Jul 9 – Not so hot. I washed. Finished Gladys’ blazer. Toni was here.
Jul 10 – I started seweing the flower quilt together. Pam came & got Pat.
Jul 11 – I got ½ of the State Flower quilt put together.
Jul 12 – I sewed on the quilt top. Went to Wellington. Took Gladys’ blazer in. Pam came after Pat.
Jul 13 – We went to Ft.Collins for groceries. Went by garage sale. It tried to rain.
Sunday, Jul 14 –We stayed home all day. Gladys & Angie came up. We got Russell’s papers out of the Opel.
Jul 15 – Terrible hard rain last night. I finished putting the State Flower quilt top together.
Jul 16 – Gladys came up for lunch. She had many problems.
Jul 17 –I cut out a shirt for Bobby. Went down to Gladys’ & got 30# bucket of cherries.
Jul 18 – We went to Ft.Collins. I got a sheet for quilt lining. It rained.
Jul 19 – I went to Ft.Collins with Opal & Renee. She got a perm. I got shirt mat. & a sheet. It rained all day.
Jul 20 – We went to Wellington to garage sales. I sewed on Bobby’s shirt.
Sunday, Jul 21 – I went down to Pat Millers. Gladys came & gave me a perm.
Jul 22 – I washed & mopped the kitchen. Pat Miller came up & fixed my quilting frames. Liz brot a bag of green beans. Barb S. brot her land payment.
