Zephaniah2:3; 3:12-13/1 Cor 1:26-31/Matthew 5:1-12a
“Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth, who have observed his law; Seek justice, seek humility; perhaps you may be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger…” “Brothers and sisters you are among those called. Consider your situation.”
We reflect on the summary teaching of Jesus in His sermon on the mount. The beatitudes offer a summary of His message, and also provide the norm for living as His disciples. We who seek happiness, or blessedness, will find it when we live as peacemakers, thirsting for holiness, expressing our dependence upon God.
Free Concert at St. Patrick’s CathedralFebruary 3, 2011 at 7 PM
An Organ and Brass Celebration at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. Join the musicians of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York (John Henry Lambert, Founder and Music Director) and international organ recitalist Stephen Tharp, as they present a concert of music for Organ and Brass, including works of George Baker and Arthur Willis. Featuring: A performance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. For more information,” please contact Mr. Robert Evers, Music Administrator, at (212) 753-2261 x274, or via e-mail at .
Paul asks us to look at our lives, as we have been called. We look at our situation, today at this moment. Where are the beatitudes reflected in my life as a follower of Jesus? Do I find in this teaching a challenge to my comfort level? Are there areas of concern, requiring change on my part?
The prophet tells me plainly to seek the Lord, seek justice, seek humility. The threefold goal must be sought after and pursued. It doesn’t happen by just sitting back and waiting. My effort to incorporate these virtues and the Lord Himself in my life demands action on my part.
The teaching echoes the threefold mandate of Micah: You know what the Lord asks of you… to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God.Lord, help me listen to this sermon today.

Thank You from the Dominican House of Studies
Dear St. Joseph’s,
Thank you for the warm welcome I received last weekend. Thank you for the many assurances I received for prayers, as well as the very generous contributions to the Dominican Seminarians in Washington D.C. and Kenya.
It was a pleaseure meeting many of you and your families, and learning how much you value the preaching of the Dominicans at St. Joseph’s. In the training for our preaching mission, you are truly one of our patrons. Some of the seminiarians you are supporting, God willing, may soon be at St. Joseph’s ministering to you and the ones you love.
We are all very grateful to you and wish you a blessed and safe 2011.
In Christ and St. Joseph,
