FOUGARO THE GALLERY Nafplion Opening

MARK HADJIPATERAS

Saturday, the 14th of June 2014

On Saturday the 14th of June, Fougaro launches FOUGARO THE GALLERY Nafplion with a large solo exhibition of works by renowned artist Mark Hadjipateras.

The exhibition will run until Sunday the 3rd of August.

This will be the first time, since 2008, that the Greek public will have the opportunity to enjoy aMark Hadjipaterasexhibition of such a scale. The presentation is taking place courtesy of a.antonopoulou.art gallery.

Over 100 works, mainly large and small dimension sculptures created out of fiberglass, bronze and aluminum, oil monotypes and paintings on canvas, will be showcased in the unique 300 sqm space of Fougaro, which is officially opening for the first time to the general public.

Showcasing works created over the last six years, the exhibition comprises pieces that the artist is presenting for the very first time or which were created especially for the purposes of this show.

“The entire colorful society of City Dwellers, Mark Hadjipateras’ unique hybrid creatures are landing at FougaroTheGallery. Bizarrely tender, these anthropomorphic creatures create their own cosmos which is sure to captivate all who view them.

Next to the City Dwellers, the New Totems, the Tree and the Progonoi, earthly, solid and timeless forms stand together in “The Forest”. Acting as both transmitters and receivers, they assimilate and transform, conversing with the universe and all its particles.

Presented in large horizontal and vertical friezes across the Gallery’s walls, the monotypes of oil on paper are striking monochromatic works created especially for this exhibition.

Small and large, black, silver and colorful, all these works together create their own vibrating universe. One is easily captivated by this exotic cosmos of creatures both strange and familiar. They seem to be reaching out, offering us their hand or perhaps something more… I listened carefully one day and thought I heard them whisper: “we are one”.
