WELDERS

The Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors consortium (FCBC), comprising HOCHTIEF solutions, American Bridge International, DRAGADOS and Morrison Construction, have been appointed to design and construct a new cable stayed bridge over the Firth of Forth, together with new road connections both north and south of the estuary.

The contract is worth £790 million, and the new bridge is scheduled for completion in 2016. Design work is well underway, with construction work now underway.

From the summer onwards construction of the deck will commence, and thereafter we will have a requirement for welders, working on both land- and marine- bases:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Must be Qualified in accordance with EN 287-1 or EN ISO 9606-1, in the listed positions and at least two of the following processes: Overhead groove weld: PE/4G, Overhead fillet weld: PD/4F in MAG (135), FCAW (136), MMA (111). Experience/qualification with Self Shielded FCAW (114) will be considered favourably.
  • Welder Certificates should have prolongation signed by employer to show the applicant has been welding in the applicable position and process every six months since the date of qualification
  • Welders will be required to take welding test to validate competency.
  • Recognition of material to be welded
  • Recognition of weld preparations
  • Use of power and hand tools
  • Use of welding tools and equipment
  • Be fully familiar with drawings and welding procedures
  • Knowledge of effect of climatic conditions on welds
  • Knowledge of pre-heating methods
  • Knowledge of safety precautions
  • Working in hazardous areas under ‘permit to work’ regulations
  • To implement and apply the FCBC project systems and procedures
  • To ensure that the requirements of the Project quality systems are fully and effectively applied to all aspects of work undertaken
  • To contribute welding skills and experiences to the ongoing development of project work methods and practices
