GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORIZED USE OF INSURED-OWNED VEHICLES

Our insurance company does everything possible to keep the cost of our coverage affordable. One way the company accomplishes this goal is by carefully screening our vehicle drivers. The following are their guidelines for determining driver eligibility:

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Bus drivers must be between the ages of 25 and 65 years old. They must comply with all commercial drivers’ license laws for their state.

Van or small bus drivers must be between the ages of 21 and 70 years old.

Individuals who are over the age of 65 (for a bus) or 70 (for a van or small bus) may only be approved to drive with written authorization from the individual’s personal physician attesting to their physical and mental ability in safely operating a motor vehicle. Once approved, a new authorization is required each year.

LIFESTYLE REQUIREMENTS

All drivers must have a lifestyle that does not demonstrate abuse of alcohol or drugs.

DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS

A driver who has a minor violation (i.e., speeding 1-10 miles above posted speed limit) with no at-fault accidents on his record may still be acceptable as an authorized driver.

A driver with a violation such as speeding 11-19 miles above the posted speed limit, with no at-fault accidents or other violations shall receive careful consideration. An individual with such a record shall be considered an “Occasional Driver”only; rather than a primary driver.

A driver with a driving record containing any of the following shall not be permitted to operate an insured-owned vehicle under any circumstances: a) speeding violation of 20 or more miles above the posted limit; b) DUI or DWI; c) reckless driving; or d) at-fault accidents.

ADDING DRIVERS TO YOUR POLICY

The insured organization is responsible for notification of adding primary drivers to the insurance policy. Drivers are classified as either “Primary” or “Occasional.” A “Primary” driver is anyone who drives an insured vehicle at least once a month or more than twelve times per year.

The insured organization should limit Primary Drivers to no more than four to sixindividuals (4 to 6) per vehicle. Your insurance company will pull the motor vehicle record for all Primary drivers.

The insured organization must have a screening program in place prior to approval of any “Occasional” drivers. All prospective “Occasional “drivers must fill out the “Driver Information Form” and provide the FUMC with a recent copy of their driving record to be considered.

Our insurance provider has developed a Driver InformationForm to assist FUMC in screening and adding drivers to your policy. A copy of this form is attached for your use. FUMC will retain these forms on file for all of our drivers (both primary and occasional) and review and update annually.

ACCIDENT REPORTING

Timely reporting of accidents not only assists the company in quick settlement of a potential claim, it is also a condition in your policy agreement. Drivers should be instructed to report ANY incident to the church administrator IMMEDIATELY. A written record of all incidents should be maintained in your office and the matter reported promptly to us.

USE OF PRIVATELY OWNED VEHICLES FOR INSURED AUTHORIZED ACTIVITIES

Individuals who use their own personal vehicles for transporting participants to insured-authorized activities shall provide the organization with proof of personal automobile insurance, as well as meet the same standards as drivers of insured-owned vehicles.
