  1. The nominee has theacademic qualifications, standing, expertise, and experience appropriate to the course to be examined in terms of both level and subject;
  2. The nominee has sufficient knowledge and understanding of UK sector agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and the assurance and enhancement of student learning opportunities;
  3. The nominee is competent and experienced in the design and operation of a variety of appropriate assessment tasks and procedures;
  4. The nominee has recent external examining experience;
  5. The nominee is familiar with the standard to be expected of students on the award to be examined;
  6. The nominee is fluent in spoken and writtenEnglish and any other appropriate language;
  7. The nominee meets the criteria of professional, statutory or regulatory bodies, if required;
  8. The nominee holds no more than two external examiner appointmentsof taught provision (including this one);
  9. The nominee is employed at a different institution/company to that of the outgoing external examiner (if applicable);
  10. The nominee has not had any direct ties with theSchool, its staff or students on the courses to be examined in the last three years, or five years in the exceptional case of external examiners to be reappointed;
  11. The nominee is not anyone who is, or who knows they will be, in a position to influence significantly the future of the students on the course of study to be examined;
  12. The nominee has not acted as a consultant to the course team or done any paid work within the School within the last three years;
  13. No member of the nominating School is currently appointed as an external examiner in the same subject area or for a cognate programme of study at the nominee’s institution and therefore this appointment will not result in a reciprocal arrangement;
  14. There are no other examiners from the nominee’s current institution examining on the specified course(s).
  15. The nominee is not employed by, or a member of any board or committee of, the University or any of its collaborative partners;
  16. The nominee is not a former staff member or student of the University, unless a period of five years has elapsed and all students taught by or with the nominee have completed their courses.
