Forestry Technician – Zone Check Cruiser

The Prescott, Coconino, and Kaibab National Forests are planning to fill one or two Zone Check Cruiser positions. The jobs are planned to be announced as a Zone Check Cruiser position, within the 0462 series, at the GS-8/9 (target GS-9) level. These positions are permanent full time positions, with a duty station of Williams, Flagstaff, or Happy Jack (Mogollon Rim Ranger District Office) Arizona. The location will be selected by the applicant.

About the position: One position will serve as the zone check cruiser for the Kaibab, Prescott, and Coconino National Forests in northern Arizona. The second position, if filled, will be zoned primarily across the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests with some potential work on the Tonto and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The second position is tied primarily to the timber sale activity under the Four Forest Restoration Initiative.

The individuals will have the responsibility to assist their assigned national forests in their timber sale preparation/cruising program. They will also work with Regional Measurements Specialist in the Regional Office and the other two zone check cruisers (located in Springerville, AZ and Santa Fe, NM. These individuals will work independently as well as in conjunction with each forestry program manager on each forest. The individual will provide timber sale check cruising service, review and approve timber sale cruise designs, and assist with local and national level cruiser training.
