The Inyo National Forest (INF) is seeking qualified applicants to fill one Forestry Technician (Recreation), GS-0462-5(temporary position), to be located at the Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine, CA. This position is currently advertised in USAJOBS under the announcement TEMPOCR-0462-5-REC-DT, so applicants may apply now.

Duties of this position include: Primary duties include providing visitor information over the phone and in person at the ranger station frontdesk, assisting with the sales and stocking of bookstore products, selling passes and issuing permits, and directing phone and visitor inquiries to appropriate agency staff. Reports on conditions and use of sites and areas. Maintains contact with and provides support to forest recreation staff and agency partners. Serves as a unit fee collection officer. Inspects recreation areas, areas of concentrated public use, and special use permits for compliance with the permit and the management plans, public health, and safety.

The Inyo National Forest is a large, complex forest, encompassing about two million acres in California and Nevada. It contains several natural features of national and international interest. There are seven wilderness areas and six research natural areas, as well as the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Diverse geologic features, combined with the elevational extremes and attendant wide range of climatic conditions, results in tremendous floristic diversity on the Forest, with vegetation communities ranging from desert scrub, sagebrush scrub, and Pinyon woodland, to Jeffrey pine, Lodgepole pine and alpine habitats.
