Forest Hills Elementary PTO MinutesMarch 17, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 6:07PM by Mindy Rok, PTO President, and the previous meeting minutes were reviewed. There were no errors or additions to the November minutes. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was given by Danielle Russell and seconded by Marcie Brown. All were in favor.

The principal, Mr. Jacobs, then gave the Principal’s Report. Mr. Jacobs informed the group that assessment exams would be given to 2nd-6th grade during the week of March 31-April 4, 2014. He also explained that the increase of technology (due to the sales of Ranger-opoly game) were enhancing classroom learning. Mr. Jacobs then informed the group that May 30, 2014 would be 6th grade promotion exercises, June 4, 2014 would be Kindergarten promotion exercises, and June 5, 2014 would be high school graduation. It was also decided to change the date of the 6th grade dance from May 29, 2014 to May 30, 2014. All were in favor of this decision.

Next, Laura Docherty, Treasurer, reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. She indicated that a lot of the expenses were coming up from field trips and classroom activities. There were no additional questions regarding the report. A motion to accept the report was given by Alyson Richardson and seconded by Janine Parks. All were in favor.

Then, Jess Wingard reviewed the Santa Shop information. She explained that Santa Shop raised $6000.00 this year and she has almost finished the shopping for next year. There were no questions regarding Santa Shop.

Joslyn Sorchilla then explained that the school collected $5,126.40 from Box Tops during its last collection. She informed the group that the next collection (and last one for this school year) would take place May 6, 2014.

Mindy Rok explained that the next Campbell’s Labels collection would be May 2, 2014 since Wanda Webb was not in attendance.

Next, Alyson Richardson spoke about the Giant Eagle Apples for Students program. She explained that we currently had 610 points to use toward a variety of prizes. Alyson said she would purchase the TV for a Walk-A-Thon 2014 grand prize. All were in favor of this decision.

Next was the discussion of Student Appreciation Week. It was decided that Student Appreciation Week would take place May 19-23, 2014 and the following theme days were approved: 5/19: Camo Day/Hat Day; 5/20: Crazy Hair Day; 5/21: Green and Gold Day; 5/22: Mis-Match Day; 5/23: T-Shirt Day (Carnival Day). All were in favor.

Mindy Rok then informed the group that the carnival vendor had been booked, we would serve nachos/cheese and slushies again but we would limit the slushie flavors. It was suggested that the SADD group from the high school come over during carnival day to dance with the students. Then, it was noted that the 6th grade dance would take place on May 30, 2014 instead of May 29, 2014. The theme would remain glow in the dark and Laura Docherty would put together a survey for the 6th grade students to poll them to see if they want to have a signed (signature) shirt or a typed shirt. All were in favor of these ideas.

Next, Mindy Rok explained that we would be having a Ranger-opoly Raffle. She explained that each chance would be $0.50. All staff, faculty, and students could participate in the raffle and a chance sheet would go home with students. Mindy said that for each $20 in raffle money we raised we would give away a game.

There was no new business.

Door prizes were given to Kim Brown, Janine Parks, and Becky. The meeting ended at 7:00PM. A motion to adjourn was given by Janine Parks and Debbie Wadsworth.
