Foreign Language Department Policies 2015-2016

1.  Grade calculation

Grades will be weighted as follows:

Daily grades count 50% of the average.

Test grades count 50% of the average.

Major test grades count twice within the test average.

2.  Daily study is essential to success.

3.  Academic extra credit opportunities will be offered occasionally.

4.  Late work

Late assignments will have a 25 point penalty per day late up to 2 days. On the third day the grade will become a zero.

At the teacher’s discretion, chronic offenders may have late paper privileges revoked. Student will be notified when this happens.

5.  Make-up work

Missed work must be made up promptly. Daily work will be due with one day for each day absent given, unless work was due on the date absent, in which case the assignment should be ready upon return. A grade of zero will be entered into the gradebook for assignments missed due to absences. When they are made up within the specified time frame, the grade for the missed assignment will be changed.

Make-up tests and quizzes must be taken within one week of the original missed evaluation. If the evaluation was announced previously, an absence the day before a test does not excuse a student from taking the test with the rest of the class.

Make-up tests will not be the same test as the original test.

6.  Re-testing

Re-testing will be offered if:

  1. The student has no assignments missing for the chapter.
  2. The student completes the remediation required by the teacher.

The second test will be worth up to but not more than a 70 and will not be the same test as the original test.

7.  Tutorials are available during flex time. Students must have a pass from me to be released from flex period.

8.  The zero tolerance policy for cheating at SHS dictates that the student will receive a grade of zero on the assignment and be referred to the office for disciplinary action.
