CELL MODEL PROJECT Name:______

Due Date: ______

Cell Type: ______

For this project, you will construct a model of a cell

You will be assigned either a plant or animal cell

You may work with 1 other student on an AT RISK BASIS. Partners earn same grade!

The model must be 3-dimensional

The model must be at least 25 cm in diameter

Each cell part must be made of a DIFFERENT material

Each cell part must resemble the real part in relative size and shape

Each cell part must be identified on a SEPARATE key.

On a separate piece of paper, you need to TYPE a chart that names the cell part, provide a key for what you used for the part, and WRITE A FUNCTION FOR EACH PART. A sample of the chart is located in your teacher’s shared folder under Cell Project in the Biology folder and on your teacher’s web page. This form can be copied and used to make the chart.

You will be orally quizzed on the identification of organelles and their functions on the due date of the project. BE PREPARED TO JUSTIFY OR EXPLAIN YOUR CHOICE OF MATERIALS IN TERMS OF HOW THEY ARE RELATED TO AN ORGANELLES FUNCTION.

‘Deductions’ and ‘Additions’

This section allows for both deductions and additions towards the total point value.

DEDUCTIONS: One point, (1pt), will be deducted for each organelle misrepresented by either color,

size, placement, umber, structure/texture, etc

ADDITIONS: This section requires students to justify the use of materials by describing how their media choices ‘share’ the same purpose/function as the organelles they represent. The purpose is to ‘make connections’ between cell organelles and other, more familiar, objects. Students can earn one point for each appropriate connection highlighted, (up to eight points).
