RestorativeJustice

LoiedermanMiddleSchoolhasembracedthemindsetof restorativepracticesandjusticetofurther enhanceapositiveschoolclimate.Researchsupports thatwhen negativebehaviorsaresimplydealt withby aonesizefitsallconsequencethebehaviorsoftendonotchangeandlikelywillbe repeated.Individualswho aretheoffendersof thenegativebehaviorarenotplacedintosituationsto repairtheharmtheyhavecaused toothersandoftentonotseetheimpact oftheiractions. Restorativejusticeandpracticescreatethoseopportunities andsupportatruesocial/emotional learningenvironment.

RestorativeJusticeisatheoryofjusticethatemphasizesrepairingtheharmcausedbynegatively impactfulbehavior.Itisbestaccomplishedthroughcooperativeprocessesthatallowallwilling stakeholderstomeet,althoughotherapproachesareavailablewhen thatisimpossible.Thiscanlead totransformationofpeople,relationshipsandcommunities.Youwillhearmore about our implementation ofthismindsetastheschoolyearbegins.Belowisalinktoavideothatdescribes Loiederman’sjourneythusfarinbuildingupon thecommunityof RestorativeJustice.

SummerReading/MathAssignments

Itisvaluableforstudentstomaintaintheirlearningroutinesaswellascontinuetheuseoftheir skillsparticularlyinmathandreading.As areminder,theexpectedsummerreadingassignmentsfor allgradelevelscanbefoundonourwebsite.Thesesummerreadingassignmentshaveadeadline anddobecomepartofthefirstquartergrade. Additionally,thereareoptionsofmathsupports for allstudentstoexploreonourwebsiteaswell.Limitedpapercopiescanalsobepickedupinour mainofficethroughoutthesummer.

PrincipalCoffees

Itisimportanttometofacilitateopencommunicationso we canappropriatelysupport studentsand createapositivemiddleschoolexperience. IwillbehostingperiodicPrincipalCoffeestoallowan opportunity forparentsandcommunity memberstoshareideasandbeprovidedschool-wide updates. The first Principal Coffee will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017 from

9:30am-10:30amintheMediaCenter.AlloftheAdministration Teamwillbeattending. AdditionalPrincipalCoffeeswillbeheldthroughouttheschoolyear.

ExcelBeyondtheBell(EBB)

LoiedermanMiddleSchoolhasawonderfulpartnershipwiththeMontgomeryCountyRecreation DepartmentofferingaFREEafter-schoolprogram,ExcelBeyondtheBell.Thisprogrambeginsthe last week of September and runs through the middle of May. It offers exciting classes Monday-Thursdayuntil5:30pmfor avarietyof interests.Transportationisofferedfor studentswho regularlywouldreceivethisservice.Studentsmustregisterfor thesesections.StaytunedinAugust for registrationinformation.

SaturdaySchool

Sheholdsagraduatecertificatein BilingualSpecialEducationfromGWUandaMaster’sinMinorityandUrbanEducationfromUniversityof Maryland,CollegePark.
