Response to Literature

Non-Written Response

For the non-written assignment, complete one of the following choices.

Non-Written Response Choices:

1. Book Cover: Create a new cover for the book. Make sure it shows the title and author, and make sure that it captures the idea, plot, or spirit of the book.

2. Book Trailer: Create a trailer for your book (like a coming attraction for it). Be sure that book title and author are included.

3. Book’s Fan Page: Create a website (not a real one; just create what it would look like) for the book.

4. Food from the Book: Make a food from the book and bring it in. (Please, keep food allergies in mind.) Be ready to explain how it connects to the book!

5. Wanted Poster: Create an Old West or an FBI wanted poster for the antagonist of the book. Make sure that the crime that he or she is wanted for is clearly included.

6. Map: Create a map of your story’s setting. Be sure that it is labeled.

7. Act it out: Take one dramatic scene from the book and act it out. You can either act it out in class, or you can film it and bring it in. It should be rehearsed (you shouldn’t be reading from the book).

8. Timeline: Create a timeline of the plot. Be sure to include all the important plot points.

9. Picture This: Bring in or make art that relates to the book’s theme. Be ready to explain what that art shows and how it relates to the book.

10. Graphic Novel: Turn a scene of the book into a graphic novel or a comic book.

11. Soundtrack: Create a soundtrack for your book. Name each song and artist, and be ready to explain how each song relates to the book.

12. Advertisement: Create an ad (magazine, TV, or Internet) for the book.

13. Setting: Draw or create a visual of the book’s setting. How did you see it? Explain what the setting is and why you picture it that way.

14. Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat: Create a (fake-do not post) social media page for a character in the book. Be sure that the page reveals who the character is and how he or she thinks and feels.

15. Bookmark: Make a bookmark that advertises the book. It should have an image that you create of the book on one side, and a short review of the book on the other.

16. Poster: Create a poster for the book (like a movie poster).
