Hi Ray
I have a few queries regarding how stocking rates will be calculated for ANC 2016 which you may answer for me;
Querie 1
If sheep are present at the end of a month does the farmer get the benifit of the whole month or is it worked out by the number of days present in that month, I am asking specifically here about the 0.15 L/U over the 12 months of the year.
for example Farmers has 10 Hectares, and keeps 10 ewes for min of 7 consecutive months (30th Apr to 31st Dec), thereby satisfying the 7 month rule.
For the average over 12 months he needs, 12 months X 10 Hectares = 120 ewes
He has 10 ewes X 7 months as mentioned earlier = 7 x10 = 70 ewes
120 - 70 = 50 ewes
If he purchased the 10 ewes purchased on 20th Jan and he keeps them till 31st Dec as mentioned earlier, will the entire month of Janurary count, or does he need to buy extra to make up for the 20 days he missed?
It would be better to purchase the extra stock as animals purchased can only be counted from the day they arrive into the flock. Also if lambs are born into the flock they can also be used for stocking density purposes from the date of birth.
Querie 2
Do 2016 born lambs aid the 2016 stocking rate even if they are not kept for a minimum of 7 months?Yes lambs can be counted for stocking density purposes from the date of birth and towards annual total..
Querie 3
If a farmer needs to sell sheep, if he buys in a corrosponding number of ewes before he sells the sheep will the newly purchased ewes cover for the 7 consecutive month requirement?
Yes if these sheep are purchased prior to sale they will counted for the 7 consecutive months. The holding need to meet 0.15 livestock unit not necessarily the same sheep have to be kept.
Querie 4
If a farmers has say 10 hectares of land and has say 11 ewes on the 2013 and 2014 and 2015 census does he need to forward his sheep flock register? or will the census cover him?
Based on these figures he will be fine however payment will not issue until the annual total is met which will be after the last census.
Thanking you for your help.
