PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Tidewater Regional Governor’s School program will offer students the opportunity to solve real-world problems related to STEM topics and methodologies by exploiting their inherent interest in unmanned automated vehicles (UAV). Working in cross-age groups, students will research relevant topics relating to innovating/improving a new/existing application of UAV and/or piloted drones. At least one class day will be devoted to off-site field trip(s) that will provide students with vital, novel experiences that support the session theme. Depending on the scope of students’ chosen projects, a variety of hardware and software options will be made available to students to accomplish necessary tasks. Activities that support the session theme will be planned and carried out by TRGS teachers. Students will present their technology experience, through any means reasonable, during the concluding day of the program to visiting families, district guests, and the public. Instructors who have experience working with gifted students and who have experience with available technology will act as facilitators of learning. In addition, expert speakers will provide participants relevant information and resources that will enhance the overall learning experience.
To apply, please complete the attached materials and return no later than March 25, 2016 to your school’s Gifted Resource Teacher.
Cordially,
