FBI 2011 Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA)

Las Vegas – Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Kevin Favreau of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Las Vegas Field Office announced Tim Wong has been selected as the Division’s 2011 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) recipient. SAC Favreau presented Mr. Wong with the commemorative award on December 20, 2011, at the John Lawrence Bailey Memorial Building, 1787 W. Lake Mead Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89106.

The FBI presents the DCLA annually on behalf of its Director, Robert S. Mueller III. It was created in 1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and civil rights education and prevention. Each year, the Special Agent in Charge of each FBI Field Office has the opportunity to select an individual or organization that has made a significant difference in the lives of others.

A graduate of the FBI Las Vegas Citizens' Academy in 2006, Tim did not hesitate when asked to return in 2009 to assist with organizing the first FBI Las Vegas Citizens' Academy Alumni Association (FBICAAA). He is a charter member of the Board of Directors. In November 2010, he took over as President and implemented new ways for the CAAA to become involved with the FBI outreach programs, such as; supporting the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge, Adopt-A-School Program, and organizing the 2011 FBI Las Vegas Citizens' Academy Graduation in true gala style. He is instrumental in the organization's growth, both administratively and financially.

As President of the FBI CAAA, Tim is proactive in supporting the FBI Adopt-A-School and Junior Special Agents Academy. This school year 2011-2012, the FBI and FBI CAAA partnered with Preparatory Institute, School for Academic Excellence at Charles I. West Hall (West Prep). Tim made frequent visits to the classroom on behalf of the CAAA and Arcata Associates. He donated school supplies and playground equipment, encouraged CAAA members to donate and participate in a career days. Tim has been instrumental in organizing, planning, funding and raising money fornumerous field trips to University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), the airport, and Hoover Dam for the students.

Tim has reached out to assist his community and the FBI in other ways. He supported the 2009 "FBI Las Vegas Holiday Cheer Project" by making it possible to provide funds for gifts and gift cards for a local family, school, and charity. He is an advocate and supporter of the U.S. Vets Initiative, a non-profit organization that assists homeless veterans with rehabilitation, housing, job skills, and employment.

As president and chief executive officer of Arcata Associates, Inc., Tim Wong is responsible for the strategic direction and operational excellence of the Las Vegas-based aerospace/defense company. With more than 400 employees in eight states, Arcata supports military test and training, aeronautical flight testing, and manned and unmanned space flight. He and Arcata have worked closely with the FBI on numerous projects.

Under Tim’s leadership Arcata has received a number of awards and recognitions: 2011 NASA Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year; 2011 NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year; 2009 Best Place to Work (under 999 employees) – Las Vegas Review Journal; and 2008 Defense Security Service James S. Cogswell Award for outstanding industrial security program.

Tim has been an advocate for small business and has served as a member of NASA’s Minority Business Resource Advisory Council (MBRAC) and the Secretary of the Air Force’s Historically Underutilized Business Council (HUBC). He is a founding member of the Nevada Minority Supplier Development Council (NVMSDC).

Tim currently supports a number of other non-profit organizations: President, Las Vegas – Clark County Library District Foundation; Treasurer, OCA, Asian Pacific American organization that promotes cultural, educational, and civil rights in the community; Board of Director, Nevada Public Radio, and member, Cox Communications Community Advisory Board.

Tim has been honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Nevada; Nevada Library Association as the Trustee of the Year; and College of Southern Nevada as a Legacy Achievement Award recipient.

Tim received his Bachelors degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Tim and his wife Shari, son Alexander, and daughter Lauren, reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.

FBI Director Mueller will present Tim Wong with the 2011 FBI DCLA during a formal ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Washington, DC, in March 2012.
