SETAC Europe 26th Annual Meeting Brings 2,000 Scientists to Nantes
A platform to Discuss Cutting-Edge Research in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry

Brussels—The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe 26th Annual Meeting will draw 2,000 scientists from more than 60 countries from 22–26 May to La Cité des Congrès in Nantes, France, to discuss the latest in environmental science. Featuring an impressive 1,800 presentations in more than 77 poster and platform sessions, this is the biggest, international annual meeting of its kind in Europe.

Under the theme, “Environmental contaminants from land to sea: Continuities and interface in environmental toxicology and chemistry,” experts from academia, government and business will share advanced knowledge in environmental sciences in order to improve environmental toxicology and chemistry.

Local scientists, led by Thierry Burgeot, Chair of SETAC’s Scientific Committee and Unit Head of Biogeochemistry and Ecotoxicology of Ifremer, help organize the meeting in Nantes, an area where the French environmental toxicology and chemistry community has been active for the past 25 years on the Atlantic seabord. SETAC Europe’s scientific annual meeting will cover topics such as climate change and contaminants, microplastics in the environment, biomonitoring of contaminants in the marine environment, oil and gas extraction, endocrine disruptors, science integrity and publications bias, but also risk assessment and plant protection, the production and use of cosmetics, the monitoring of quality of aquatic environments, sustainable wine exploitation to name a few.

Three distinguished keynote speakers will discuss noteable topics of interest. On Sunday, 22 May, Thomas Maes with Cefas, UK, will provide a presentation about the plastic waste in aquatic environments. Arja Rautio with the Thule Institute of the University of Oulu, Finland, will talk on Monday, 23 May, about how climate change and environmental contamination by chemicals may combine to modulate ecological and health effects. On Tuesday 24 May speaker, Marc Léonard from L'Oréal, France, will address the regulatory perspectives related to the fate and effects of cosmetics and personal care products.

Bart Bosveld, Executive Director of SETAC Europe said: “We are delighted that so many delegates will join us in Nantes.Professionals from a slade ofdisciplinesand representing different sectors, including academia, business, consultancy, government and NGO's are welcomed to discuss the latest scientific findings. With this meeting, SETAC contributes to thedevelopment of principles and practices for protection, enhancement and management of sustainable environmental quality and ecosystem integrity. It is our conviction that objective science can and should make a difference in the environmental debate. This is underlined by our slogan "Environmental Quality through science".
