Morgan Welcomes State Superintendant Kathy Cox to District 39 for Education Town Hall

Austell, GA – Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) will be hosting a special town hall meeting this month with guest speaker Kathy Cox, State Superintendant of Schools, to discuss education in Georgia with a specific focus on the South Cobb community.

The town hall, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 30th from 7pm-9pm, will feature remarks from Superintendant Cox about the state of Georgia’s education system, including an in-depth look at this year’s state assessment data and what it means for education in South Cobb. The event will close with a Q & A with audience participants and Superintendant Cox about some of Georgia’s most pressing educational concerns, including what advocates and stakeholders can do to make education work in their respective communities.

Mableton’s own Lindley Middle School, which recently achieved adequate yearly progress (AYP) – the state’s measure of year-to-year student achievement and school performance – for the first time in the school’s history, will host the town hall.

“Lindley is honored to be the chosen school for this event. As we continue to celebrate our AYP status and removal from the Needs Improvement list for the first time in the school’s history, we are excited that Representative Alisha Morgan and Superintendent Kathy Cox will be here to celebrate with us as we rewrite the history books for Lindley Middle School,” says Lindley Middle School Principal Sandra Ervin.

Morgan invites parents, students, teachers and other education advocates to this important and exciting discussion.

“I think it’s important that you put people in front of the decisions-makers so that these leaders can really hear their experiences and use them to create good public policy. I am pleased to bring Superintendent Cox to my district so that she can see some of the things we are proud of as well as hear some of the concerns of my constituents.”

The Town Hall on Education is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 30th from 7pm-9pm at Lindley Middle School, located at 50 Veterans Memorial Highway inMableton, GA 30126.
