WORNALL/MAJORS HOUSE MUSEUMS TO CELEBRATE HERBS THROUGHOUT APRIL
(Kansas City, Missouri)— The Wornall/Majors House Museums are celebrating the spring season in April with three herb-themed events: Cooking with Herbs Chef Demo (April 23), Herb Cocktail Party (April 27), and Herb & Wildflower Sale (April 29). The Wornall/Majors House Museums is the nonprofit that manages the historic John Wornall and Alexander Majors Houses, two of Kansas City’s only remaining antebellum homes.
Chef Cody Hogan, Chef de Cuisine of Lidia’s Kansas City restaurant, will prepare herbaceous dishes at the April 23 Cooking with Herbs Chef Demo. Hogan will demonstrate how to best work with herbs for your own delicious meals, and guests will also get a chance to sample the food as he cooks it. Hogan serves as Lidia Bastianich’s traveling assistant, food stylist, and studio chef for her Emmy-nominated television program, Lidia’s Kitchen. In addition, an open hearth cooking expert will be on hand to discuss how nineteenth-century cooks would have utilized herbs in their own cooking. This is an extremely exclusive event with limited tickets available. The demo will take place on Sunday, April 23 at the Alexander Majors Barn (8201 State Line Rd.) at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $25.
Local syrup creator Boozy Botanicals will create four signature herb cocktails for the Herb Cocktail Party on April 28. A wide variety of herby libations will be on display, as attendees can enjoy a mint julep, beer cocktail, sangria, and mocktail, all highlighting an individual herb. Guests will also enjoy a delicious tasting menu created by Chef Shannon “Firebug” Kimball, a dessert bite, and local wine and beer provided by Brewery Emperial and Somerset Ridge Winery. The party begins at 6:00 PM at the Alexander Majors Barn (8201 State Line Rd.). All-inclusive tickets are $45, or $40 for Wornall/Majors members.
The following Saturday, April 29, members of the community are invited to attend the Herb and Wildflower Sale at the John Wornall House (6115 Wornall Rd.). A variety of unique and locally grown herbs will be available for sale, as well as native wildflowers and plants from Missouri Wildflower Nursery. Expert growers from Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City will be able to provide shoppers with tips on how to effectively grow herbs in their home gardens. All proceeds from sales support historic preservation. The sale begins at 9:00 AM.
