ANGELOS & BARRY: The New Power Generation
Coming to the Harlequin Theatre 28/10/2016
Angelos Epithemiou (BBC 2 Shooting Stars) and Barry From Watford (BBC Radio 2 Steve Wright) come together for their debut tour this Autumn to discuss how to succeed in business, where they think corporations have got it right and wrong and the direction in which the financial sector is headed. But mostly they will be discussing the bookies, Londis, Crimewatch, if you can claim benefits in space, whether or not Kim Jong Un cuts his own hair and how Ban Ki Moon once nearly lost The UN in a poker game.
“Their ridiculous riffs build and build until you can’t help laughing….Simple but just great.” The Guardian
A comedy match made in heaven (or a touring version of the odd couple), will send sparks flying, hold onto your zimmer frames and carrier bags as 82-year-old Barry From Watford and much younger friend Angelos Epithemiou take to the road for their, first ever, New Power Generation tour. Barry’s extensive media experience from being a regular on Steve Wright’s Radio 2 show as well as performing ventriloquism at his local club allied to Angelos’ days as a burger van impresario and sidekick to Vic ‘n’ Bob on Shooting Stars will see the crowds rolling in. Although this is their first tour together, they already work together on their popular, critically acclaimed podcast and therefore have a handle on each other’s strengths and many weaknesses, which we’re sure to learn a lot about.
So what can we expect from this dynamic duo, we asked them and they said:
Angelos: It’s actually going to be a very serious debate like Question Time. I’ll be Dimbleby and Barry will be everyone else like Russell Brand, Farage and all that lot. And we’ll discuss all the big stuff like the economy, ecology, Europe, superyachts. I don’t have a superyacht because it’s a waste of money. If I had all that cash, I’d spend it on something much more worthwhile, like an elephant or something that could fit in the garden. At the very least it could wash your car.
Barry: When we done a run-through in Watford, we came onstage with a Kung fu thing. We thought it was rather brilliant, very controlled, but then one day we thought it wasn’t really working at all. So we bought a Chinese dragon’s head for 170 quid off the internet and what we do is quite a vibrant opening using the dragon’s head. When we first wrote the show, it had a TED Talk style title but the honest truth is we’re going to be trotting out the usual rubbish and we’re now stuck with that title. There will, of course, be a number of important themes but if anyone can actually uncover them, that’s another matter.
What’s not to like – come on down!
