Where: 100 E Main St, Louisville, KY 40202

The University of Louisville’s Cressman Center for Visual Art is pleased to present an exhibition of Judy Chicago’s work in glass, pyrotechnics, and smoke. Since the 1970s, Judy Chicago has been a central figure in feminist art practice, and is well known for her incendiary interventions. Many of these interventions have also incorporated incendiary material, often in the service of “feminizing” her landscape or finding beauty in the explosive and the ephemeral. Although much of this work was forged in fire, the resulting objects and documentation are as subtle as they are aggressive, and as fragile as they are dangerous.

“Fire Works” puts Chicago’s glasswork in conversation with her pyrotechnic performances. In addition, the exhibition includes prints from Chicago’s Retrospective in a Box,a kind of image-survey of her career to date. Altogether, “Fire Works” provides an explosive perspective on Chicago’s oeuvre while offering some context for the Hite Art Institute’s related exhibition, “Capturing Women’s History; Quilts, Activism, and Storytelling,” on view at the Schneider Hall Galleries until March 19th.

Where: 742 E Market St, Louisville, KY 40202

Revelry is excited to welcome Leah Tinari, a whimsical illustrator and artist, for a solo show! "Pinky La Rue" focuses on "the stuff" that has infiltrated her life as she navigates motherhood in New York City. The series is a tribute to children and their playfulness as well as a realization of the humor in being a parent. The content and formal elements in her paintings combine to offer a personal and occasionally caricature-like narrative, addressing and encompassing both the awkwardness and complexity of life.

MORE ABOUT THE REPUBLIC BANK FIRST FRIDAY HOP:

Every First Friday of every month, downtown Louisville art galleries, shops, boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment hot spots are open extended hours with specials, discounts, refreshments, and live music. Hop on the ZeroBus for a free ride to a stop near each member location. A special thank you to our title sponsor, Republic Bank, for their generous support of the First Friday Hop.

MORE ABOUT THE ZEROBUSES:

The ZeroBus is powered by batteries located under the bus floor. The ZeroBus can travel for up to two hours and fully recharge on route in less than 10 minutes. It recharges automatically by connecting to an overhead system that links to a high-capacity charger. The ZeroBus vehicles travel downtown circulator routes in place of the outdated trolleys – the highest polluting vehicles now in TARC’s fleet. Like the trolleys, they arrive at stops frequently and all rides are fare-free. The ZeroBus is also the new mode of transportation for the popular Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop on Main, Market and Fourth streets. A special thank you to our friends at TARC for their generous support of the First Friday Hop.
