FOR SENIORS ON A FIXED INCOME, AN ANTIDOTE TO ANXIETY ABOUT RISING GAS AND FOOD PRICES --

COMCAST’S SEEKING SOLUTIONS WITH SUZANNE

AND HOST SUZANNE ROBERTS OFFER INSPIRING STORIES

ABOUT TURNING ADVERSE SITUATIONS INTO

MOTIVATIONAL SUCCESSES --

PHILADELPHIA, PA – July 10 – With the flood of disheartening news this summer about the rising cost of oil and food and falling Wall Street values – especially for older adults and seniors on a fixed income – tales of inspiration and motivation can be a welcome change from increasing anxiety. And Suzanne Roberts, Emmy Award-winning host and creator of Comcast’s Seeking Solutions With Suzanne, provides a diversity of intimate, moving interviews and creative ideas and solutions that do just that -- introducing viewers to fascinating, courageous and inspiring guests who have made their own lemonade from the lemons life has thrown at them. From overcoming female military oppression and finding forgiveness and peace after the loss of a child in the Armed Forces, to maintaining a positive outlook on a colorectal cancer diagnosis and even a leap into the adventure of love and romance by women in their 60s, Seeking Solutions jumps into the inspirational waters with a slate of upcoming programs that are both stirring and entertaining, such as:

On July 13 – Suzanne sits down with a master of inspiration, Michael Berg -- whose son was beheaded in Iraq in May 2004. A 26-year-old American business owner who traveled to the Middle East to expand his company, Nick Berg’s murder became national news when an Islamic organization released a video of his decapitation on the Internet. Michael discusses his struggle to overcome his son’s violent murder and his eventual path to peace and forgiveness.

From war’s casualties to its aftereffects, Suzanne delves into the flashpoint issues around veteran’s rights with Bud Bucha, a Vietnam vet who has dedicated his life to fighting for the reform and improvement of veteran’s benefits. A Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Bucha earned the accolade through his unwavering determination to lead his company to safety after a North Vietnamese Army battalion surrounded and trapped them, he shares his stories of defying overwhelmingly dangerous odds both during and after his experiences in battle.

On a different field of battle, Dr. John Marks pays Suzanne a visit to talk about why a colorectal cancer diagnosis is not always as grim as it sounds, and that if caught early, this deadly disease can be treated and cured. Based in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, Marks has committed himself and his practice to bettering the quality of life and outlook of colorectal cancer patients and survivors.

And speaking of survivors, if becoming the oldest person to win an Olympic medal for sailing isn’t enough to qualify Don Cohan as an inspiration, perhaps the fact that he’s beaten cancer not once, but twice, does. With his relentlessly positive attitude, Don managed to sail through his adversities, and on July 15, Suzanne joins him to hear his intriguing and inspirational story. A bronze medalist at 42 in the 1972 Munich Olympics who became the oldest person ever to place in Olympic sailing, Cohan was diagnosed with the most severe type of Hodgkin’s Disease 19 years later. He made it through with support from his wife, Trina, the staff at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and his own fighting spirit, and when the disease hit again 7 years later, it was the enthusiasm and encouragement of his grandchildren that helped him battle his illness, when they said, “Grandpa, you are happiest and feel your best when you are sailing.” Sure

enough, Cohan bounced back, took to the sea and went as far as winning the Atlantic Coast Championships.

Losing a child is one of the most devastating things a parent can experience, and on July 17, Suzanne learns about help and healing after the death of a child in the military from American Gold Star Mothers, Judith Young and Ruth Stonesifer. Established after WWI in 1928, the organization aims to extend the hand of friendship and support to mothers who have lost children in the Armed Forces. Young and Stonesifer share their powerful stories of loss, love and transformation through American Gold Star Mothers.

As well, while we’ve all heard the term “Chick Lit,” there’s a new genre emerging for women of another generation – “Matron Lit!” Author Joan Medlicott, a novelist whose stories feature the exciting love lives of women in their sixties, also joins Suzanne to discuss the “Matron Lit” movement, with stories of romance and adventure that are sure to ignite the fire of exhilaration in romance-novel lovers of any age!

Then, on July 20, Suzanne explores spirituality and its effect on health with Dr. Christina Puchalski, a specialist in geriatric medicine based in Washington, D.C.. Assistant Professor of Medicine and Health Care Sciences at The George Washington University Medical Center, Puchalski is also the founder and director of GWish, the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health. She shares with Suzanne her strong belief that incorporating a patient’s faith and spiritual beliefs into his or her treatment plan can ease both emotional and physical pain and stress.

Delving deeper, Suzanne explores the significance of labyrinths, which can be a spiritual journey that enthusiasts say provide them with the most fulfilling connection, visiting with Sister Sheila McGinnis and Marnie Hensel to learn more about this mystifying yet popular voyage. Described as a single path or tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation, a labyrinth is an ancient symbol combining the imagery of a circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. Long used as a meditation and prayer tool, it represents a journey to our own center and back out into the world, and because we walk them, labyrinths are a metaphor for life's journey. Often confused with a maze, which is like a puzzle to be solved with twists, turns, and blind alleys, a labyrinth has only one path, leading one on a circuitous route to the center and back out again with a single choice: whether or not to walk a spiritual path, with the goals of letting go of worries and concerns; illumination through prayer and meditation of insight, clarity and focus, and empowerment and integrating the insights gained.

On July 27, Suzanne travels to Atlantic City, New Jersey to learn about the city’s rich history. This seaside town was literally built from the ground up before 1900, and was inspired by a railroad that lead Philadelphians looking for a weekend getaway right to the heart of town. Suzanne explores how much the Atlantic City of today differs from what it was like at the turn of the century, when families donned their Sunday best to stroll the boardwalk, and discovers how many similarities remain in “America’s Playground” from the Atlantic City of a century ago, with casinos and luxury shopping more of an attraction than ever.

In addition, Suzanne sits down with Ed Looney, Executive Director of the Council of Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, who explains why gambling can become a dangerous downward spiral for 5 percent of seniors, and what you can do to help a loved one who may be suffering from gambling addiction.

From treatment of addiction to physical fitness, on July 28 Suzanne explores Gyrotonic, the newest fad sweeping the fitness community, knowing that sometimes you need to get a little creative in your search for whatever will get you back on track. Slightly similar to Pilates, Gyrotonic concentrates on flexibility and strengthening your core as you go. An excellent choice for seniors, Suzanne hops onto the machine for workout with the help of instructor Joe Tighe.

Finally, to end a month full of inspirational stories, Suzanne turns to “jolly-tologist” Allen Klein. “Laughter is the best medicine” is an old phrase that Klein has turned into a passion and a career. Also a best-selling author, Klein has kept his readers laughing with his books, Work Laughs, Teacher Laughs and Parent Laughs, among others, and Suzanne discovers just how far the therapeutic benefits of humor and laughter

A two-time Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award-winner, Suzanne Roberts is a visionary pioneer who, recognizing the dearth of quality television programming for the over 50 audience, created Seeking Solutions in 2000 – and a brand new career for herself at the age of 80. Since its inception, the show has helped to change the landscape of informational television with a landmark product that gives the 50+ population the kind of innovative programming they need and want, which prior to its launch didn’t exist on a national scope anywhere else on the small screen. Aiming to both enlighten and entertain, the show provides ideas, information, tips and insight on topics that impact the older adult audience -- from facelifts to prostate cancer, intergenerational conflict to finance, breaking the rules of aging to weight training – all within the context of an adventurous guide map to making the most out of life, regardless of age.
