Wandering: An Increasing Risk with Alzheimer’s

Arden Courts utilizes Unique Accommodations for Wanderers

Wandering is a common side effect in those suffering with Alzheimer’s. Behaviors associated with wandering may lead to dangerous situations or encounters. Arden Courts uses interesting and innovative measures to comfort wanderers and avoid any potentially dangerous or frightening situations for residents.

Arden Courts’ construction was designed by a team specializing in Alzheimer’s facilities. The architectural layout allows freedom for wanderers while still being in a safe, secure setting. Arden Courts locations all contain four houses that contain a dining room, living room, laundry facility, kitchen, pantry and a number of bedrooms all connected by monitored wandering paths for residents.

Security for wanders is just one of the ways Arden Courts strives to care for their residents. A typical day surrounds residents with memory stimulating activities, life skills and routines, group programs and personal time. Residents are guaranteed a protected, stimulating environment where they may wander freely and still remain comfortable.

Arden Courts is a part of the HCR ManorCare health care family that comprises leading providers of short-term post-acute services and long-term care. Quality care for patients and residents is provided through a network of more than 500 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and hospice and home health care agencies.
