ONONDAGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROFESSOR HONORED WITH KAUFFMAN E-PROFESSOR AWARD
Professor Karl Klein Chosen To Launch First-Ever
“Enitiative” Project in Syracuse
SYRACUSE, NY – Onondaga Community College Computer Studies Professor Karl Klein, of Solon, New York, was one of 20 professors and practitioners chosen to launch the first “Enitiative” project – the Syracuse Campus-Community Entrepreneurship Initiative, which connects campus and community organizations by providing entrepreneurship grants to fund ideas for revitalizing Central New York in the areas of technology, neighborhoods, and the arts. The projects were made possible by a grant awarded to Syracuse University from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
The “eProfessors” and “ePractitioners” have been selected from campuses and organizations in the Central New York region and will play significant leadership roles in teaching, research and service within their respective disciplines.
They will serve two-year terms, and each receives up to $20,000 to support their Enitiative project.
Professor Klein will create an interdisciplinary survey course in the computer studies department at Onondaga to prepare students for careers in the exciting, rapidly changing, and increasingly interconnected world of energy, technology, and the environment. The course will have a strong entrepreneurship component to provide students with skills needed to start a small business in this rapidly growing field. Onondaga’s Small Business Development Center will provide information and assistance with the creation and preparation of business plans and sources of funding/capital.
Enitiative focuses on entrepreneurship in the arts, technology and neighborhoods. To learn more about Enitiative, go to www.entrepreneurship.syr.edu.
