Amite- District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux reports that 24-year-old Jeremy Jones Sr. was found guilty of attempted second degree murder.

During the three day trial, Assistant District Attorney Le’Anne Malnar explained to members of the jury that on September 30, 2017, Jeremy Jones Sr. got into a physical altercation with the victim, Lamont Stevenson which led to Stevenson being stabbed in the chest at an address on Hendrix Lane in Hammond, LA.

The state called several witnesses who took the stand to tell jurors of the events that led up to the stabbing. The witnesses stated that Stevenson came over to the residence to assist his cousin and his girlfriend with moving out when an altercation transpired between Stevenson and Jones.

During the physical altercation, Stevenson hit Jones in the eye; Jones then left the scene and returned with a knife. He then began chasing Stevenson with the knife. Stevenson lost his balance and fell on the ground, and then Jones stood over him stabbing him repeatedly, and then fled from the residence in a black Chevrolet Impala. The victim was pulled into a car at the scene and transported to the hospital driven by Chadwick Boudreaux, who was also present at the time of the stabbing.

When officers arrived on scene all subjects were gone on arrival. A neighbor advised officers in the direction the black impala went and officers began patrolling the area for the vehicle. A short time after, deputies observed the black Chevy Impala driving past the scene of the incident slowly.

Deputies got behind the vehicle matching the description given by the neighbor and conducted a traffic stop. Deputies observed a heavy set male with a laceration below his left eye get out of the vehicle. The suspect identified himself as Jeremy Jones and admitted to authorities he had stabbed Stevenson.

Stevenson was advised of his Miranda Rights and placed into custody.

Dr. Marquinn Duke took the stand to tell jurors the extent of Stevenson’s injuries. He advised that the knife was just centimeters away from puncturing his heart and did puncture his lung. He also advised that Stevenson had a stab wound in his leg close to a main artery and “considered him to be lucky to be alive.”

The jury voted unanimously on finding Jeremy Jones Sr. guilty of attempted second degree murder. Judge Elizabeth Wolfe has scheduled sentencing for November 8, 2017.
