Biome Gallery Project

In groups, you will be teaching your classmates about the different types of terrestrial biomes. Your group and the biome you will be researching will be assigned to you. Choices include: tropical rain forests, tropical dry forests, tropical savannas, deserts, Mediterranean woodland, temperate grassland, temperate forests, boreal forests, and tundra.

Your group needs to find out what the average temperatures are, the average amounts and types of precipitations, if those amounts vary by season, and anything else remarkable about the climate typical of the specific biome. You need to include a description of the soil/ground, flora and fauna, where in the world the biome can be located, and the factors that shape the biome’s flora and fauna (such as: seasons, fires, or water availability). Finally, produce a picture or a diagram of what the biome looks like.

You may use the library, internet, and your textbook as references to help you gather the necessary information. All of the information will then be put together on a poster board that will be hung around the classroom as in an art gallery. All groups will then rotate around the room reading other groups’ posters and gathering information about each of the biomes in a biome book that you will make later. As part of your grade, you will fill out a self and peer evaluation sheet after completing the project.
