For all Scout Network members and Leaders aged 18 - 25

33Fifty is a leadership programme for young Commonwealth leaders aged between 18 and 25.Did you know that 33% of the world’s population lives in the Commonwealth, and 50% of those are under 25?

33Fifty will run immediately prior to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, as part of the official cultural programme.

Glasgow: July 17/18 & Edinburgh: July 19/20

The participants will explore Glasgow and Edinburgh, meeting local leaders from public, private and not-for-profit organisations as well as leaders from the wider Commonwealth gathered for Glasgow 2014.

Accommodation will be provided by Glasgow University and Edinburgh University during the programme

During the programme food and transport will also be provided.

33Fifty aims to develop young leaders to bring people together, reconcile differences, lead change and use the Commonwealth’s networks effectively.

Each programme will bring together 100 young leaders of which:

  • 1/3 will be nationals of the host country
  • 1/3 will be from across the Commonwealth currently studying or living in the host country
  • 1/3 will be from across the Commonwealth, with priority given to applicants from small island states and from the country due to host the next Commonwealth Games.

The participants will tackle a challenge related to an issue of
fundamental importance and relevance right across the Commonwealth. This will be explored through:

  • in-depth and real conversations with talented leaders from all sectors
  • behind-the-scenes visits to an incredible range of organisations and institutions
  • practical engagement with a challenge which is current and compelling across the Commonwealth.

Through taking part in 33Fifty, participants will gain:

  • leadership skills to help them in their studies, careers and civic life
  • the ability to make a difference to their communities, the Commonwealth and wider world
  • access to global networks and an alumni community of engaged Commonwealth citizens
