The Advanced Placement Program (AP) is a collaborative effort among motivated students, dedicated teachers and parents, and committed high schools, colleges, and universities, which has enabled millions of students to take college-level courses and exams as well as to earn college credit or placement while still in high school.

Each AP course has a corresponding exam that participating schools worldwide administer in May (except Studio Art, which is a portfolio assessment). AP Exams contain multiple-choice questions and a free response section (either essay or problem solving).

AP exams are a culminating assessment in all AP courses and are thus an integral part of the program. As a result, the BirdvilleIndependentSchool District has the expectation that students who enroll in an AP course will take the corresponding AP Exam. Because BISD is committed to providing access to AP Exams for all students, the school district will pay for every student to take the AP Exam in every AP course in which the student is enrolled.

Please read and sign in the appropriate space below, indicating your understanding and agreement with the expectation that pertains to you as an AP student, parent, or teacher in the BirdvilleIndependentSchool District.

AP Student

I will come to class on time and will be prepared for class each day. I will not drop the class because I recognize that study throughout the entire course is vital to my success on the AP Exam. I will take advantage of tutorials and review sessions, and I will commit to taking a practice AP Exam, using the information from that practice to improve any areas of weakness. In May, I will take the AP Exam associated with this course. Should I not take the AP exam in May, I understand that I will be required to pay a fee of $30.00 since the district is billed a portion of the exam cost for any unused test.

AP Parent

As the parent or guardian of the AP student, I will encourage my son or daughter to come prepared for class each day and will not agree to allow the student to drop the course without the advice and consent of the AP teacher, school counselor, and school administrator. My expectation is that my son or daughter will take advantage of tutorials and review sessions and that he/she will take the AP practice exam for the course. My expectation is also that my son or daughter will take the AP Exam in May, with the understanding that BISD will pay all fees associated with the AP Exam unless my son or daughter does not participate in testing.

AP Teacher

As an AP teacher, I will teach my course following the course description developed by College Board and the syllabus that has been approved for the course. I will provide instruction each day that prepares students to take the AP Exam. I will encourage all students enrolled in the AP course to prepare for and take the AP Exam, and I will offer tutorials and review sessions. I will also commit to giving a practice AP Exam and to working with the students in using the practice exam to help them address their individual weaknesses before the AP Exam in May.
