Cara Reinard is an author of women’s fiction and thrillers. Her debut domestic suspense novel, Pretty Dolls and Hand Grenades, will be released from The Wild Rose Press in the winter of 2016. She is represented by Carly Watters of P.S. Literary. In college, she was an editor for her student newspaper and sold advertising space for the publication. Although, writing was her first love, she found she had a knack for persuading people with verbal prose and has made a career in corporate sales; although she never abandoned her true passion of creating stories. Cara lives in the Pittsburgh Area with her husband, two children and fluffy Bernese Mountain dog. When she’s not hustling or chasing tiny

footsteps, she’s writing.

What are you currently writing? I have begun drafting a new domestic suspense novel inspired by the popular Showtime TV series, The Affair.

Where do you like to write? Any quiet space I can find, although I’ve drafted the majority of my projects in my home, either in the office or the sunroom.

Do you have any writing quirks? Some people like to have music on in the background while they write or don’t mind the TV blaring in the background. I am not one of those people. I have a hard time concentrating and blocking out noise and prefer to write in silence, which can be challenging with two kids under six.

What are you reading now, or what is your favorite book? I’m currently reading Karma Brown’s debut women’s fiction novel, Come Away With. I tend to read what I write—women’s fiction and thrillers. My favorite books include: Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn, You, by Caroline Kepnes and The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.

Where do you live? How is the weather treating you? I live in a northern suburb of Pittsburgh, and so far the weather hasn’t unleashed its fury yet, but it’s coming. I’m not a fan of cold weather, but I do some of my best writing in the winter months because I’m forced indoors.

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why? I’d love to have the super power to read minds, because I’m employed in sales, and it would make my job a lot easier if I knew what my customers were really thinking. Also, because my family already mistakenly thinks I have this ability, and as an author, mind reading would be especially amazing for research purposes.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten? Did you like it? When I was vacationing in Italy, they put pieces of octopus, with the suction cup thingies still attached, atop my salad as if they were normal garnishes, like croutons. No, I didn’t like them. They were gummy and just as disgusting as they looked, and I personally think the only way to make octopus or squid edible is to deep fry it, and even then you’re fooling yourself. Just imagine how hard you’re making your intestines work to break down that stuff. It can’t be good for you.

If your book was made into a movie, who would you like to see cast as the lead? When I was writing Pretty Dolls and Hand Grenades, I pictured Heather Dubrow from the Housewives of Orange County as the lead, because the characters in the book have similar personalities to The Housewives, and Heather looks exactly like I described my main character, Cece.
