AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR WALTER TODD FOR AN IMPRESSIVE ROOKIE YEAR IN SENIOR GOLF COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR WINNING THE JONES CUP SENIOR INVITATIONAL AND BEING NAMED THE SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF ASSOCIATION.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Walter Todd has been honored as the South Carolina Golf Association’s Senior Player of the Year for 2016; and
Whereas, Mr. Todd played golf as a young person as well as football and basketball, but golf became his game; and
Whereas, before advancing to the senior ranks, he won multiple fourball championships with his brother, and he has played in three U.S. MidAmateurs; and
Whereas, in his first full season as a senior player fiftyfive and older, Mr. Todd served as the 20112012 president of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and eighteen years on its board of directors; and
Whereas, as a rookie, he partnered with Eddie Hargett to take the South Carolina Golf Association’s (SCGA) Senior FourBall championship, the SCGA FatherSon with his son Walt, and the SCGA BetterBall with Mr. Hargett again, and he took a title in the Senior Festival of Flowers; and
Whereas, Mr. Todd added topthree finishes in the SCGA Trescott Team Championship, the SCGA Senior Championship in second place, the National Senior Hall of Fame Championship in third place, and Carolinas FatherSon with his son Neal; and
Whereas, on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, Mr. Todd rallied from two strokes down with two holes left to play and forced three additional holesto capture the Jones Cup Senior Invitational at the Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia, the biggest individual win of his career; and
Whereas, now at age fiftysix, he has retired from the family business and represents several golfrelated companies in sales, which allows him to set his own schedule and, to his delight, gives him opportunities to call on golf courses; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representative commends Walter Todd for his outstanding success as a rookie in senior golf competition, andthe members look to hear of his continued achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Walter Todd for an impressive rookie year in senior golf competition and congratulate him for winning the Jones Cup Senior Invitational and being named the Senior Player of the Year by the South Carolina Golf Association.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Walter Todd.
