Dear Parent / Carer of:

Following our recent Progress Meetings (where we discuss every child’s individual learning, attitude and effort) we have identified some areas where we think your child needs some extra support.

For any child that we feel needs some additional support in school we are providing:

  • A lunchtime catch up club if your child is late, absent OR HAS NOT DONE READING AT HOME– a chance for them to catch up with work missed so they don’t get left behind during the week. Reading at home is one of the most influential things you can do to help your child make greater progress.
  • Support in class during English / Maths sessions (with Class Teacher / HLTA assigned to class)
  • Plugging the gap / group intervention sessions in the afternoon(Cameron is involved in handwriting, spelling and writing groups which take place 3 x 30 minutes per week.)
  • Dingley Dell support when / where a child needs additional help
  • 1 to 1 conferencing and target setting so your child knows where they made a mistake and how to correct it, as well as what to do next.
  • Invited to participate in afterschool activities.
  • Small guided reading 1 x weekly
  • Individual reading at least 1 x weekly
  • 1-1 lunchtime reading

BUT - we cannot be totally responsible for the progress your childmakes. We need you to help at home too. We know from research that the children who do not spend time with their families on reading, timetables and homework, do fall behind and do not make the progress expected. We do not want this to happen. Please can you specifically help your child with:

  • Support with reading every night (at least 10 minutes)
  • Support with the completion of homework / learning of spellings
  • Learning of time tables -3’s, 4’s ,6,s
  • Ensuring Cameron is ready and equip for school every day (reading book, PE Kit, homework, Medical supplies etc)

Pennine Way has been given some additional funding (PUPIL PREMUIM - £166,400) to support pupils who have gaps in their learning. We have committed to spending more than our allocation(£200,000) to help narrow these gaps. Pupil premium, and the additional funding, is being used for all of the Interventions mentioned above to support YOUR child.

Thank you in advance for all your help. If you would like to discuss any of the Interventions we are offering in further detail please do pop in and see your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Sue Blair
