Litany for All Saints’ Day

Let us give thanks to God for all the saints
who have been redeemed by the death and resurrection
of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and pray with them for the world and for the Church.

For Mary, full of grace, the God-bearer,
and all who magnify God’s holy name,
we give you thanks and praise.

For John the Baptist, Anna of the temple,
and all prophets proclaiming repentance and hope,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Peter, Andrew, James, and John,
and all who have followed in the way of Christ,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Mary of Bethany,
and all who have sat at Jesus’ feet and loved him,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Martha and Lazarus,
and all who have confessed Jesus as the resurrection and the life,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Mary Magdalene, Thomas,
and all witnesses to Christ’s glorious resurrection,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Paul, Barnabas, Lydia, Thecla, Patrick,
and all servants and missionaries of the Gospel,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Perpetua, Ignatius,
and all who have died for the truth of their faith,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Hilda of Whitby, Augustine of Hippo, Hildegard of Bingen,
and all teachers in the church,
we give you thanks and praise.

For Benedict, Francis, Clare, Julian, Teresa,
and all who have entered the mystery of prayer,
we give you thanks and praise.

With Thomas Cranmer, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Pope John 23rd,
and all reformers of the church’s life,
we give you thanks and praise.

With William Wilberforce, Caroline Chisholm, Mary McKillop,
and all workers for freedom and justice in the world,
we give you thanks and praise.

With Evelyn Underhill, Simone Weil, Dietrich Bonhoeffer,
and the martyrs and mystics of our own day,
we give you thanks and praise.

For all who seek justice and promote the rule of law,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the victims of war and terrorism everywhere on earth,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For all who live in fear, and for refugees from violent regimes,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For Christians taking up our apostolic calling,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For respectful dialogue between Christians and people of other faiths,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For peace and love in our homes, workplaces and neighbourhoods,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For people living with addiction, pain or grief,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For all who are sick in body, mind or spirit,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the poor of our own community, and for all prisoners,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For courage to follow the saints in faith and hope and love,
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Holy God, hear the prayers of all your faithful people
and guide us in the paths of peace and holiness,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
