Program News: Agreement Update
This quarter,Microsoft launched the new 2010 ISV Royalty Agreement Packet. The October 2010 ISVR agreement refresh includes a number of changes to facilitate the success of ISV Royalty’s efforts to scale into the ISV ecosystem and assist ISVs in reaching their full potential by partnering with our added value Distributors. Some changes impact the requirements for ISVs to participate in the Direct Channel of the program. This means many of ISVs renewing or joining for the first time will be partnering with our authorized distributors via the Indirect Channel.
As of October 4, 2010, there are two new requirements for participation in the Direct ISV Royalty Agreement.
1.The ISV must be managed; i.e., they must have a direct relationship with Microsoft with a resource assigned such as a Partner Account Manager or Business Development Manager.
2.The ISV mustpay US$300,000 in royalties during the three-year life of the agreement.
At the end of three years and if royalties are not at least US$300,000, Microsoft will bill for the difference between the $300,000 and the amount of royalties actually reported. In the event an ISV chooses to terminate the agreement early, Microsoft will prorate the minimum commitment and provide a bill for any shortfall.
Please contact a local, authorized distributorfor assistance with signing a new Indirect ISV Royalty Agreement.

Product News: Price List Updates
We wanted to give you advance notice that some prices will be changing in January 2011. Please note that these changes either have already occurred or willoccuracross all Volume Licensing programs. Details on the actual changes are reflected in the January list available for review on December 1st.
These price increases reflect the greater value offered by new versions. For example, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 was added to the ISVR price list in March of 2010, but the price increases were deferred until January 2011. The prices for Standard and Enterprise editions reflect added value of features we are adding including, but not limited to, Master Data Services, StreamInsight, PowerPivot, and data compression. Microsoft continues to be the only major database vendor who does not alter price per core for multi-core processors. As processing power and capabilities of hardware increase, licensing SQL Server per processor continues to be a good option for many application scenarios, where SQL Server is typically less than a third the cost of comparable Oracle licenses. The other products in the list below all have similar stories of improved features described on their respective websites.

Product News:Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Client Access Licenses (CALs)
Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Client Access Licenses (CALs) are available for distribution in ISV Royalty Licensing program. Windows Server 2008 R2 includes new capabilities that improve the traditional Session Host scenarios (known as terminal server) environments and enable new emerging Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) scenarios. To reflect this change, the Terminal Services (TS) role has been renamed to Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
In addition, the new RDS CALs use rights now also allow access to the previous version, so separate RDS or TS CALs for Windows Server 2008 are not required.
The distribution of RDS CALs requires a signed amendment to ISV Royalty Licensing and Distribution Agreement, similar to the requirement for Terminal Services CAL distribution. However, with the introduction of RDS CALs, the Amendment has been simplified and most information is available through standard ISV Royalty documents:
  • Amendment: authorizes Distribution by modifying definition of "integration"
  • Prices & SKUs: now available on the standard ISVR price list
  • Use Rights: EULA now available in standard quarterly EULA packet posted on Explore.ms (advantage – now available in all ISVR Languages)
  • Product Registration Keys: still available through ISVROY alias; requires signed amendment on file before keys will be issued.
Please contact for the RDS CAL Amendment.
Note, Windows Server CALs are currently not available through the Microsoft ISV Royalty Licensing Program and must be acquired by the customer through another Microsoft Volume Licensing program.
