www.helenogrady.net.au TERM 4, 2012

As you all know, our students are currently rehearsing for their year end plays. As mentioned last term, we will be holding a number of short presentations across two days, Saturday, 8th and Saturday, 15th December at the Tivoli Theatre. Your child will take part in one of these presentations only. Each class will be required to attend a short rehearsal in the production venue prior to their performance. This will help to familiarise students with the venue and staging.

Following are the rehearsal and performance details relating to your child’s studio.

PLEASE KEEP THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN A SAFE PLACE FOR EASY REFERENCE, as these details will not be repeated in further communications!

FURTHER PRODUCTION INFORMATION

1. VENUE REHEARSAL

Please note that the rehearsal at the venue is just prior to your child’s performance. Therefore, wherever possible, students should arrive in costume. As a general rule, we would prefer it if parents did not attend rehearsals. However, as we have a lot of students attending rehearsals, and the safety of your children is of utmost importance to us, please come to the hall door to drop children before their rehearsals. Children will then stay in the hall until they are collected by parents after the show. If for any reason, children need to leave the hall, their teacher, or Principal, Cheryl Marron, be notified by a parent, before they will be allowed to leave.

2. PERFORMANCE

Tickets

You are most welcome to bring along family and friends to the show. To cover the cost of hall hire, lighting, staging and additional staff, there will be a small entrance cost.

Adults $5.00

Children (not attending the Academy) $2.00

THE ENTRANCE FEE IS PAYABLE AT THE DOOR, WHICH WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AT THE TIME GIVEN ON THE FRONT PAGE.

Drinks & Snacks

Children are advised to bring along a drink bottle and snack which they can have during their rehearsal time. Water will also be available for sale at the door and during rehearsal. (Price: $2 per bottle)

Special Requests

·  In fairness to our students, and the many hours of work put into preparing their plays, it would be appreciated that if babies and toddlers are attending the shows, parents take them outside, should they become unsettled or disruptive to the performers or the audience.

·  As we have a very tight schedule, in order to get through all of our classes, punctuality for rehearsals and performances will be much appreciated. However, we have more than one show on each day of performances. Between each show, we have short breaks to allow our crew time to eat and catch their breath! Therefore, please do not enter the hall until the allocated time.J

3. PARKING

Unfortunately, the majority of parking around the venue metered parking. There is limited parking outside the Tivoli Theatre, but this is also paid parking. Another close public car park can be found at Moreau Mews in Applecross. There is also metered parking available at the Raffles Car Park immediately opposite the Tivoli.

To avoid any unnecessary stress, please allow ample time to find parking and please let friends and family know to do the same!

4. DRESS REHEARSALS

In all classes, a Dress Rehearsal will be held in class, in Week 7 of term, i.e., the week beginning Monday, 26th November. Your child’s teacher will remind the children of this the week before.

COSTUME SUGGESTIONS

Following are costume suggestions, detailing the needs of children in their year end play. As promised, costumes required are fairly basic, and can usually be found readily at home, borrowed from family and friends, or generated using low cost “bits and pieces”. Please do not go to any unnecessary expense. The creativity of parents and students never ceases to amaze us!

THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE ANTS to be performed by these Lower Primary classes: Applecross, Atwell, Bull Creek, Canning Vale, East Fremantle, Kardinya, Thornlie, Willetton

GRASSHOPPERS Green leotard/bathers (girls) or green shorts and T-shirt.

Extra bits and pieces to be provided by Academy.

ANTS Black/red leotards, bathers, shorts and t-shirts. We would prefer mostly black with a splash of red if possible!

Ant head gear will be provided by Academy.

FANCY THAT to be performed by the following Upper Primary classes:

Applecross, Atwell, Bull Creek, Canning Vale, East Fremantle, Spearwood, Willetton

THEME: Fancy dress party.

GLORIA: Costume to be discussed between the teacher and the child’s parent to come up with an appropriate, “over-the-top” dress!.

SPACE CREATURES:

Space costumes to be provided by the Academy. Students will need to provide black leggings and long-sleeved black tops.

REST OF CAST: Fancy dress costumes. Please do not hire expensive costumes! We are always amazed by the creativity of parents and students in devising fancy dress costumes. Be as conventional, or original, as you like!

PERFECT SCANDAL to be performed the following classes:

Bull Creek Youth Theatre, Canning Vale Youth Theatre, East Fremantle Youth Theatre, Willetton Youth Theatre, Kardinya Upper Primary, Thornlie Upper Primary

This play is set in the current day. The film stars, Jessica, Debra and Robert, should dress in elegant, classy clothes. As Jessica and Robert are established SUPERSTARS their appearance should reflect affluence and style. Debra, an emerging star, should wear clothes that are eye-catching and trendy. Maxi, the Publicist, would probably wear business clothes, whereas Sam and Cassie, the journalists, dress more casually. Fans should dress in particularly colourful or eye-catching clothes. They are vying for attention so they need to have themselves noticed! Each fan should make a simple banner or placard, promoting the stars, or the film - the brighter and zanier the better! They should carry mobile phones or cameras, as they hope to have souvenir pictures to take home.

SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS APPEAL

As the holiday season approaches, we know that there are many families in the community who will find the extra costs of Christmas a struggle. The Salvation Army helps thousands of Australian families in need through their Annual Christmas Appeal.

To assist this very worthwhile cause, each year, we have a Christmas Giving Tree at our Year End Shows. We are always amazed at the response of so many families generously donating toys, food and money. The Salvation Army are always so very grateful for your support. We are asking our Academy families to participate again in joining the Christmas Appeal. There are three easy donation opportunities available:

NEW TOY APPEAL

Families can donate a *new toy or gift (unwrapped). Egs: puzzles, games, books, gift vouchers.

FOOD DRIVE

Families can donate *non-perishable food items such as ring-pull tinned goods, chocolates, biscuits, Christmas food, etc.

CASH DONATION

Donation tins will be on hand at the shows for anyone who would prefer to make a cash donation.

(*Please note: The Salvation Army asks us for new toys only, to avoid no-name food brands and to ensure expiry dates are well into next year. For further gift ideas, please visit the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal website: www.salvationarmy.org.au/schools/christmas )

If you would like to donate an item, please bring it to your child’s Year End show venue (not classes, as it is difficult for our teachers to transport them!) and place it under our ‘Giving Tree.’ Please also share this news with family and friends who are coming to the shows, as we would love for them to be involved! Thank you for joining us in supporting the Salvos!
