MnDOT JACKSON - OVERHEAD DOORS: SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL INFORMATION

SCOPE

A.Installation of 2 (two) polyurethane insulated overhead doors and 1 (one) polycarbonate overhead door complete with hardware, tracks, track supports, electric motors and operators, control wiring, control equipment, control stations, switches, including wiring, and weather stripping, as indicated on Overhead Door Data Sheets installed at MnDOT, 149 County Road 34 East,Jackson, Mn. 56143.

B.Furnish (installation by MnDOT): 2 (two) polyurethane insulated overhead doors and 1 (one) polycarbonate overhead door complete with hardware, tracks, springs, and operators, as indicated on Overhead Door Data Sheets, shipped prepaid to MnDOT, 149 County Road 34 East, Jackson, Mn. 56143.

B.Work by others: Power by MN/DOT.

SUBMITTALS

A.Shop Drawings. Submit 1 set of shop drawings of overhead door to MnDOT, attn:Jim Englehorn, 180 County Road 26, Windom, Mn. 56101 for approval prior to fabrication and delivery.

B.Guarantee.

1.Door materials, workmanship and operation shall be guaranteed for a period of one year. All required service trips during guarantee period shall be at this Contractor's expense.

2.The door finish shall be guaranteed against any rusting on the door for two years and a 10 years rust through guarantee and 5 years delamination guarantee.

EXAMINATION OF SITE

A.Before submitting a proposal on this work, each bidder shall visit the site, take their own measurements and thoroughly familiarize himself with all the existing conditions and limitations pertaining to work herein. No extras will be allowed because of the contractor's misunderstanding as to the amount of work involved or his lack of knowledge of existing conditions. QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.Manufacturer: Sectional doors shall be manufactured by a firm with a minimum of five years experience in the fabrication and installation of sectional doors. Manufacturers proposed for use, which are not named in these specifications, shall submit evidence of ability to meet performance and fabrication requirements specified, and include a list of five projects of similar design and complexity completed within the past five years.

B.Installer: Installation of sectional doors shall be performed by the authorized representative of the manufacturer.

C.Single-Source Responsibility: Provide doors, tracks, motors, and accessories from one manufacturer for each type of door. Provide secondary components from source acceptable to manufacturer of primary components.

INSTALLATION

A.Notice shall be given to the contact person 48 hours before installation begins. Replacement -overhead doors means removing existing door panels, hardware, tracks, etc., and stockpiling on site for the owner and installing new door and accessories called for.

B.Installation of complete door and hardware assembly shall be done only by mechanics that are thoroughly experienced in this trade.

C.All work shall be in complete compliance with manufacturer's written instructions.

D.Door, springs, tracks, and operator shall be installed by the local distributor and shall be guaranteed by the manufacturer and his agent against faulty workmanship, materials and installation for a period of one year after acceptance by the owner.

E.Contractor shall have vinyl weatherstrip applied to jambs to prevent air infiltration; use 1" sweep design or approved equal which will stay tight even though door adjustment gets a little worn.

F.Upon completion, operating devices, hardware, and controls shall be adjusted and lubricated to operate properly. Wiring will be done by contractor; power supply to door operator, by Mn/DOT. Doors are to be mounted on existing jambs.

G.All doors shall have a label on the door showing name of door manufacturer and name of installer.

H.Provide O & M Manual with complete list of scheduled preventive maintenance operation.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

OVERHEAD DOORS: EXTERIOR INSULATED OVERHEAD DOORS

B.Doors

  1. Door sections shall be sandwich construction consisting of exterior and interior steel skins pressure bonded to a polyurethane core, steel skins shall be roll formed commercial quality hot dipped galvanized G-60. Minimum skin thickness - exterior 27 gauge and interior 28 gauge. Exterior and interior skins shall have a complete thermal break separated with silicone or vinyl extrusion.
  2. All sections shall have double wide end stiles to accommodate long stem rollers. End stiles shall be totally closed 16 gauge minimum separated from exterior skin with vinyl thermal break. Top section shall have rubber or vinyl seal (door greater than 16'-0" shall be minimum 3" wide) and bottom shall have an extruded aluminum retainer with vinyl U astragel, sides of opening shall have vinyl jamb seal that are easily replaceable.

3.Interior and exterior faces of panels shall be painted with primer and polyester top coat – floropolymer coating – color: white.

4.The door manufacturer shall submit evidence that the door has been tested by an independent testing laboratory to determine the true U-value of the door section and installed door to verify that the installed door meets Minnesota Air Leakage Energy Code requirements and that installed door R-value is 16 or greater.

5.Interior door face shall have reinforcing struts as required to meet or exceed a 20lb. p.s.f. as per National Association of Garage Door Manufacturers. All sections shall be reinforced with backup plates and prepunched for attachment of hardware.

C.Track, Rollers and Hinges

1.Furnish inclined wedge-type track assembly for 3-inch galvanized track and standard lift--low headroom or high lift--operation as indicated, with galvanized steel mounting angles. Horizontal track shall be supported and braced at two places on each side (double back hung), and cross bracing. Back hinging material shall be 2x2x1/8 welded or bolted black iron.

2.Provide heavy duty (minimum 13 gauge) commercial galvanized steel hinges and heavy duty double end hinges, with long stem rollers.

3.Three-inch long stem rollers shall have continuous steel rims with case-hardened raceways and ball bearings.

4. On high lift doors, provide alignment support of vertical track extension at joint with radius track via diagonal wall brace or other approved means.

D.Door Springs

1.Door springs shall be heavy duty minimum 50,000 cycle certified by manufacturer, oil tempered helical wound torsion type on solid steel shaft complete with three (3) greasible pillow block bearings per shaft segment. Torsion spring assembly shall be installed to allow for replacement of components. Spring design shall not be longer than 72" (including plugs) in an unwound state with no greater than duplex design the stationary cone shall be a superior case harden steel race (not a standard garage door bearing). If a minimum of 50,000 cycles cannot be obtained in these perimeters in a single shaft design spring assembly shall be engineered utilizing a dual shaft (upper and lower) design, modify high lift as required to accommodate dual shaft design while maintaining maximum high lift.

a.Furnish complete spring engineering, including cycle guarantee with shop drawing.

E.Lights

1.Furnish factory installed glass size 24"x12" (minimum clear view area 23"x11") thermal type insulated glass with a minimum 1/4" air space. Set lites in a sealed extruded rubber gasket. Location and quantities as per drawings.

OVERHEAD DOORS: POLYCARBONATE CARWASH DOORS

  1. Panels to be constructed with clear, sealed, 16 mm, Five-wall

Polycarbonate. Aluminum frame exterior surfaces to bebeveled with tongue and groove meeting rail for optimum moisture drainage.

Sections to be assembled with fasteners constructed of stainless steel with flush head. Bottom section to include vinyl astragal secured with an aluminum-extruded retainer.

OVERHEAD DOORS: OPERATORS

A.Furnish all items checked below:

1..Operators

Draw Bar Type - Liftmaster Industrial Duty Draw Bar Operator with brake - T Model, 120volt, 1phase, ½ HP minimum, UL-Listed or approved equivalent - Furnish single trolley for doors up to 16'0" wide and dual-trolley for all doors over 16'-0" wide.

All operators shall be equipped with the following:

1.Operators are to be equipped adjustable disc friction-type clutch, instant reversing contactor, starter, manual reset overload protection, limit switch and magnetic braking mechanism to prevent door from coasting.

2.Provide with quick disconnect for emergency operation. Extend quick disconnect through a minimum of two eyelets down to approximately 6'-0" above finish floor.

3.Control circuit shall be 24 volt. Control station shall be three-button momentary contact open/stop/close, fully guarded. Provide NEMA 4 at all locations.

4.All jack shaft operator will be installed with one (1) inch bearing stiff arms within 3" or chain and sprocket connection of operator to door shaft to prevent shaft distortion. Provide case hardened steel at all bearings.

5.Provide cycle counters mounted on exterior of operator for ease of reading. Attach to full open limit switch.

SAFETY PROTECTION

Photo-Eye (Emitter-Receiver Type) - Sun-X-Thru Beam, 24 volt power, UL Listed or approved equivalent. Locate emitter at 30" off floor and receiver at 8" off floor

RADIO CONTROL UNITS

Each door shall be equipped with the following or equal. Substitution only by written approval of Mn/DOT Facilities Management Services.
