PRESIDENT’S REPORT FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR:

Section 4(1) of the by-laws states that Membership Fees will be communicated at the AGM. At the Board of Directors meeting held on June 22, 2016 the members present voted to keep the membership fee at $30. Athena noted that membership has been decreasing over the years, not because of a lack of interest but rather because membership is not always reimbursed by employers, whereas event attendance is. Athena advised that the board will be reviewing the membership process over the year and will have a new structure or price in place for 2017-18.

Athena provided an update on the 2016/17 program. The 2016/17 program is coming together and the first event is planned for November 8, 2016. It is a luncheon session featuring David Northcott of Winnipeg Harvest. Details of the November event and others will be posted on the website as they become available. We are looking into two other events for this year likely in January and March. As always we welcome suggested topics that the membership is interested in.

National Events:

PD Week will be held in Ottawa on November 22-25. Athena advised that registration is now open and anyone interested should check the FMI website for more details.

Athena announced with Winnipeg will be hosting the PSMW this year on May 28-30. Athena introduced the local steering committee members, Robyn Van Vliet, Lynn Cowley and John O’Leary.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

Robyn Van Vliet, Co-Chair of the 2017 PSMW planning committee spoke about the progress made to date on planning the event. Robyn noted PSMW will be held at the Radisson hotel on May 28 to 30 and that the theme will be Collaboration, Growth and Renewal.
