EMF Workshop

Radio frequency (RF) Exposure Measurements and Safety Assessment emitted by Telecommunication Structure system

Introduction

NIR issues has significantly raised by the members of the public recently especially radio frequency (RF) radiation emitted by telecommunication structure system. Application of RF has been thoroughly exploited for the maximum benefits of mankind in design and operation of equipment in telecommunication industry, to provide best communication system both for mobile telephone and internet broadband. Telecommunication base station has been erected around Malaysia for coverage signals for mobile phone and interneyt broadband. the number is increasing due to demand of the technology. Besides of its benefits, radio frequency also has been seen as a threat to human being. People exposed to a complex mix of electromagnetic fields (EMF) of different frequencies that permeate to environment especially from the telecommunication structure and their antenna system. Due to that, RF exposure and safety issues needs special attention.

Objective

  1. To disseminate information on radiofrequency application in telecommunication technology and industry, issues on RF exposure to human, standard and recommendation.
  2. To overview the current practice on radiofrequency safety assessment using current technology
  1. Expanding and consolidating theoretical knowledge in the field of radio frequency (RF) application, RF assessment and measurements, and increasing practical experience of radio frequency tutorials.

Who should attend

Telecommunication Engineer, academician, regulatory body, mobile operators, broadcasters, local authorities, scientist & researcher, lecturers, technical assistant, RF engineer, liaison officer in telecommunication industries, radiation licensee, radiation protection officer, safety and health officer, advanced users and professionals in the field of broadband and selective electromagnetic field measurements. This event is also open for those interested in non-ionising radiation.

Date

Monday 28th to Tuesday 29th November 2016

Venue : Hotel Everly , Putrajaya

Course contents

Day 1:

  1. Theory and fundamentals of radio frequency.
  1. Basic information and fundamentals of radio frequency wave which categorized as non-

ionizing radiation (NIR), characteristic of radio frequency radiation

  1. Basic theory on radiofrequency application in telecommunication system and various frequencies and in other wireless application
  1. Fundamentals of RF exposure assessment and measurements
  1. Relevant standards (local and international) and recommendations
  2. Protocol of measurement; equipment and instrumentation, broadband and narrowband measurement which include frequency-selective and broadband measurements compared; spatial and time-domain variations in field strength and the resulting consequences for measurements; extrapolating for maximum system load; comparison of “sweeping” and “raster” methods; correct measurement bandwidth; RMS and peak detection; strategies for detection of safety distances.
  1. Introduction to frequency selective instrument SRM-3006 and its measurement features

Frequency-selective measurement, channel power, safety evaluation, code-selective

measurement of WCDMA (UMTS) and LTE signals and timed measurements with level

recorder and scope mode; introduction to the selective spectrum frequency analyzer

system

Day 2:

Application on RF exposure assessment – Practical and hands on measurement

Hands on for radio frequency measurement and assessment associated to radio frequency emission from telecommunication structures. Obtaining information, data recording and standards-compliant evaluation including any necessary extrapolation for maximum system load; analysis and practical examples in measuring exposure to major wireless services (e.g. analog (FM) and digital (DAB) audio and TV (DVB-T) broadcast transmitters, GSM (2G), UMTS (3G) and LTE(4G) base stations).

Lecturer

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Wuschek

Deggendorf Institute of Technology (University of Applied Sciences), Germany

The training will be performed by Professor Dr. M. Wuschek (Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences). Prof. Wuschek has already performed more than 30 workshops and trainings concerning electromagnetic radiation aspects for several parties including regulatory authorities with participants from Austria, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Macedonia, Mauritius, The Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Russian Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom. Professor Dr. Matthias Wuschek got his Dipl.-Ing. of electrical engineering (RF- and Communication Technology) from the University of the GermanArmed Forces, Munich in 1986. After several years as lecturer (Radar and Antenna Technology) he returned to the university as scientific assistant. In 1998 he received his PhD in electronic engineering. From 1998 till 2000 he worked for Rohde & Schwarz, Munich in the department of EMC Test Systems. Since 2000 he is member of the University of Applied Sciences, Deggendorf. He is responsible for the lectures "Communication Technology", "RF-Measurement Technology" and "Mobile Communication". Prof. Wuschek is also responsible for the Laboratory of Communication Technologies and the EMC Test Laboratory. His main scientific objective is the development and improvement of measurement techniques for electromagnetic fields for exposure determination and EMC. In this field, several projects e.g. for several Swiss Cantons, the Principality Liechtenstein the Bavarian State Ministry for Environment and Consumer Protection and the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) were carried out. He is member of several committees including Radiation Protection Agencies.
