Florida High School Senior College Scholarship

The AWRA is an interdisciplinary professional organization concerned with the conservation, development, management and utilization of fresh and estuarine waters and related resources together with their environmental aspects.

The AWRA will award annually a $1,000.00 scholarship to a high school senior in Florida who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in academic performance and community involvement and has an intent to pursue academic studies in a water resources related fieldat a College or University in Florida. The scholarship recipient will also be awarded a student membership to the Florida Section for the following year. All applications are due by May 15, 2015. The Scholarship will be awarded upon confirmation of enrollment in a college or university in Florida. Home Schooled students are eligible to apply.

Application Requirements and Instructions:

  1. Complete the application.
  2. Application package should be emailed to AWRA Florida no later than May 15, 2015.
  3. Provide two letters of recommendation from an administrator or instructor at your high school that address why you are the best candidate for this scholarship.
  4. Provide a copy of your most recent high school transcript/grades.
  5. Include a brief essay addressing why you are planning academic studies in the water resource related fields, either the physical sciences or environmental science related (e.g. geology, engineering, ecology, marine biology, etc.). Be concise, but thorough. You may include attachments.Please address the following topics in your essay:
  • What is your interest in water resources?
  • Have you received any academic honors?
  • What are your professional goals and aspirations?
  • What do you plan to contribute to conservation, development or management of water resources?
  • Are your academic and extracurricular activities related to disciplines associated with water resources?
  • Provide any additional information you feel supports your request for this scholarship.
  1. Application packages should be merged into a single PDF file, named under your last name, the award name and year. (e.g. “ApplicantLastName_HighSchoolApp_2015.pdf”)
