ChangeONLYthesettingsdescribedbelow.Keepallothersettingsasdefaultedinthesoftware.

Introduction:

Fldigiisusedforsending/receivingtextyoutypeinorcut/pasteintothelowertextboxonthescreen,flmsgisusedtosend/receivemessagesonICSforms,andflwrapisusedtosendfilessuchasworddocuments,pictures,spreadsheets,ect.Iwrotetheseinstructionsaroundacousticallycoupling – notusingaSignalLink.Youwillhavetomakeadjustmentstoyoursignallinktoensurethesoftwareproperlysendsandreceives.

FLDIGISetup/OperatingInstructions:

  1. Downloadandsavetoyourharddrivethelatestversions(accordingtoyouroperatingsystem)tosetupfldigi,flmsg,andflwrapfrom
  1. Runthesetupfilesforeachprogram:
  2. RememberthelocationsfortheFlwrap and FLMSG programs.Youwillneed them later.
  1. OncetheprogramsareinstalledopenFldigiandmakethefollowingchanges.
  1. Clickthe “RxID” and “TxID” buttonsintheupperrighthandcornerofthescreensotheyaregreen.
  1. Clickthe “SQL” buttoninthelowerrightcornerofthescreensoitisyellow.
  1. FromtheFilepulldownmenu:
  1. SelecttheTextCapture.
  2. Clickthe"LogallRX/TXText” soitisgreen.
  1. FromOpModepulldownmenu:
  1. SelectMT63.
  2. SelecttheMT63-2000mode.
  1. FromtheConfigurepulldownmenuselectOperator:
  2. SelecttheOperatortabinthedialogbox:
  3. Enterthe appropriate stationinformation(Callsign,Name,QTH,etc.)
  1. SelecttheModemstabinthedialogbox:
  2. SelecttheMT-63tab.
  3. Unclickthe “Allowmanualtuning” (lastlineinthedialogbox.)
  1. SelecttheAudiotabinthedialogbox:
  2. SelecttheDevicestabinthedialogbox.
  3. Clickthe “PortAudio” boxsoitisgreen.
  4. Selectthe “Capture:” and “Playback:” devicesaccordingtoyourcomputer.
  1. SelecttheIDtabinthedialogbox:
  2. Ifyouwantyourcall(fromtheoperatortab)transmitted,attheendofyourtransmission,clickthe “TransmitCallsign” boxintheCWPostambleIDsection.Setthespeedto18wpm.
  3. IntheREED-SOLOMONID(Rx)sectionunclickthe"Receptiondisablesdetector"button.
  4. IntheREED-SOLOMONID(Rx)sectionclickthe"Detectorsearchesentirepassband"buttonsoitisgreen.
  1. SelecttheMisctabinthedialogbox:
  2. SelecttheNBEMStabinthedialogbox.
  3. IntheNBEMSdatafileinterfacesectionClickthe “Enable” and “Openmessagefolder” buttonssotheyaregreen.
  4. IntheReceptionofFlmsgfilesectionclickthe “OpenwithFlmsg” and “Openinbrowser” buttonssotheyaregreen.
  5. Ensuretheboxnexttothe “Flmsg:” hastheproperpathforyourFlmsg.exefilelocationfromtheaboveinstallationnotes.
  1. Atthebottomofthedialogboxclickthesavebuttonandtheclosebutton.
  1. Your configuration iscompleteandsaved.

Tosendanfldigimessage:

  1. Typethemessageinthelowertextbox.
  1. ClicktheTXbutton(withthearrow/rectangle)totheRIGHTofthescreenbelowthelowertextbox.Pleasenote:IfyouselecttheTXbuttonwith2arrowsyourcomputerwillcontinuouslytransmit.TostopcontinuouslytransmittingclicktheTXbuttonontheRightofyourscreen(withthearrow/rectangle.)Youwillnoticethecomputerwillre-transmityourmessage,yourid,andstoptransmittingwhenfinished.

ToReceiveanfldigimessage:

Ifproperlysetupyourcomputerwillreceivethetextmessageintheuppertextboxonyourscreen.Ifthemessageisnotreadableyoumayhavetoadjustyoursoundcardsettings,ensuretheSQLbuttoninthelowerrightportionofthescreenischeckedyellow,andadjustthesquelchbarnexttotheSQLbutton.

FLMSGSetup/OperatingInstructions:

Flmsgisusedtosend/receivemessagesonICSforms.

  1. SelecttheConfigpulldownmenu.
  1. Populatethedialogboxwiththe appropriate information.

SendinganICSformwithflmsg:

  1. Calluptheflmsgsoftware
  1. Selecttheproperformusingthetabsacrossthetopofthedialogbox.ThisexampleusesICS-213.
  1. ClicktheOriginatortab.
  1. PopulatetheICS-213formaccordingly.
  1. FromtheFilepulldownmenuselectWrapAutoSend.
  1. Afiledialogboxcomesupaskingyoutosavetheformtoyourhard drive.
  1. Onceyousaveyourformitwillbesentautomatically.

ReceivinganICSformwithflmsg:

IfsetupproperlyyourcomputerwillsavetheICSformtoyourhard driveandopenit.

  1. Onceyoureceiveaformyourcomputershould:
  2. Openyourinternetbrowserallowingyoutoprinttheform
  3. Openafiledialogboxshowingthefilenamewiththemostcurrentdate/timestamp
  4. OpentheforminaICS-213boxproperlyformated
  1. IfyourcomputerdoesnotautomaticallyopentheICSformgototheConfigurepulldownmenuMisctabNBEMStabandverify:
  1. IntheNBEMSdatafileinterfacesectionClickthe “Enable” and “Openmessagefolder” buttonssotheyaregreen.
  2. IntheReceptionofFlmsgfilesectionclickthe “OpenwithFlmsg” and “Openinbrowser” buttonssotheyaregreen.
  3. Ensuretheboxnexttothe “Flmsg:” hastheproperpathforyourFlmsg.exefilelocationfromtheaboveinstallationnotes.

ToreplytoanICSformwithflmsg:

  1. Openthe appropriate formifnotalready open andclickontheRespondertabjustabovetheTofield.
  1. Populatetheform appropriately.
  1. FromtheFilepulldownmenuselectWrapAutoSend.
  1. Afiledialogboxcomesupaskingyoutosavetheformtoyourhard drive.
  1. Onceyousaveyourformitwillbesentautomatically.

  1. Youmayhavetoadjustthemicrophone/speakerlevelsofyoursoundcardifyougetjunktext.Wefoundthelevelsof50%forbothseemtoworkthebest
  1. Thereare2waystocoupleyourcomputerwithyourradio.YoucanpurchaseaSignalLink(
  1. IfyougetrandomcharactersonthescreenfornoreasonatallmakesuretheSQLbuttoninthelowerrightcornerofthescreenisyellowandadjustyoursquelchtoapprox50%.
  1. Ifyouhavearecordingdevice,suchasasmartphone,youcanuseittosendandreceivedatato/fromyourcomputertopractice.
  1. Placinga “^R” afterthetextyouaresendingwillautomaticallyplacethecomputerinreceivemodeafteryourtransmission.
  1. When you are going to transmit large blocks of text cut/paste from notepad – not Word. Word has to many hidden characters that may disrupt your transmission.
  1. Put a shortcut on your desktop that points to the folder on your hard drive where the ICS forms are saved.
