Fitness Blast

TASK: Each group of students will design a fitness blast (skill based activity) that they will organize and lead during the indoor games or arena unit.

The Design Phase:

THE FITNESS BLAST may take the form of….

Ø  Relays, tag style games, team vs team elimination with active consequences, etc.

THE FITNESS BLAST must…

Ø  last for 10 – 15 minutes and be organized so that everyone must be continually active

Ø  include some

o  sport related skills (passing, receiving, movement patterns

o  and / or some skill related fitness components (agility, reaction time)

o  and / or some play pattern drills

Ø  include some incentives for students to work well individually and together

Presentation Phase:

Each group member should take a role in

  1. getting equipment organized and ready
  2. organizing the students in forming groups or teams
  3. giving instructions
  4. monitoring progress
  5. adapting activities
  6. participating whenever possible

Report:

Each student is responsible for his or her own report.

This should be an outline of the “fitness blast” with

- point form instructions on what to do

- equipment list

- diagrams of;

- team/group formations and movement where appropriate

- gym or arena area used, showing key lines

- an evaluation of

- the activity design

* student performance that “made a difference”

(this should be both +ve and –ve)

Evaluation:

Each fitness blast will be evaluated by peers and teacher as to how well it met criteria.

*Leaders should expect that all classmates will participate to the best of their ability.
