DETAILED SPECIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS:

General:

Tanks shall conform to the requirements set forth in NBS Voluntary Product Standard, PS 15-69. In addition, the tank shall conform to these specifications and Drawing No. FTT-230.

Description:

Each tank shall have outside top dimensions of 72 ¾" length, 32 ¾" width and 32" height. The tank shall be divided into two compartments with access to each through a 24"x20" door. The complete assembly shall be mounted on and bonded to two 4"x4" skids running the length of the tank. Each tank shall also include two mechanical aerators, discharge and overflow drain. Specific details are shown on the accompanying drawing.

Material:

All materials used in fabrication shall be weatherproof, impervious to mildew, fungus, water, corrosion resistant and unaffected by ultraviolet radiation. The material shall perform equally well within a temperature range of –25° to +120° F.

Tank wall, cover and doors shall be of sandwich wall construction. The inner layer shall consist of 15 to 20 mil gel coat layered with 3/16" chopped strand mat. Gel coat shall be Isophthalic type meeting FDA requirements for food safe quality. Inner layer shall produce a smooth interior finish aqua in color. The middle core shall consist of 3/8" balsa. Balsa core material shall be equal to “contourkore” by Baltek Corp., Northvale, New Jersey. The outer layer shall be 3/16" FRP consisting of 1 layer of chopped strand mat, 1 layer of 24-ounce woven roving fabric followed by an additional layer of chopped strand mat. After curing, the outer layer surface shall then be painted with a resin mixed with a tack free additive producing a final surface white in color and relatively smooth.

The center baffle wall shall also be of sandwich wall construction. The sandwich shall consist of inner and outer layer of gel coated 3/16" FRP press molded to a 3/8" balsa core.

The completed tank shall be mounted on 4x4, #1 Douglas fir skids. The skids shall be bonded to the tank bottom and completely covered with a 1/8" layer of FRP. Two steel rods and sleeve assemblies shall be installed between the skids as detailed on the drawing.

Each tank shall be self-draining with a 6" end discharge fitting formed flush with the inside and bottom walls as detailed on the drawing. The drain shall be fitted with a 6" diameter aluminum coupling adapter and cap, Kamlok Style #633-A and #634-B as manufactured by Dover Corp., Cinn, Ohio or equal. The drain shall operate by means of interior sliding door assembly as detailed on the drawing. Sliding door material shall be sheet fiberglass of PVC.

The tank cover shall have molded circular holes for installation of mechanical aerators at the location shown on the drawing. The vendor shall install a Model 9A Special, 10 ½" basket aerator in each hole. Secure to tank as per manufacture’s recommendations. Aerator by Commerce Welding Mfg. Co., Dallas, Texas, or equal.

Each tank shall be fitted with a one-inch diameter aluminum marine overflow. Location shall be on opposite end of tank as discharge drain. Locate overflow such that bottom of hole is even with top of red line on aerator.

Access between tank compartments shall be through a center baffle sliding door assembly as detailed on the drawing. Baffle door material shall be sheet fiberglass or PVC.

Each tank compartment shall be accessible from the top by means of a hinged door with a screened vent. Door hinge and handle shall be aluminum. The hinge pin and all mounting nuts, bolts and washers shall be 18-8 stainless steel. Each door shall be secured with two stainless steel hold down clamps of 500 pound capacity each. Clamp shall be Model 225-USS as manufactured DeStaCo Products, Troy, Michigan or equal. Mounting hardware shall be 18-8 Stainless Steel. Tank covers to be held up with on zinc-plated leg brace, McMaster Carr #1571A11 or equal.

Unless otherwise noted all miscellaneous mounting hardware nut, bolts and washers shall be 18-8 stainless steel. All other miscellaneous material to be in contact with water shall be aluminum or fiberglass as shown on the drawing.
