First Six Weeks in the Books

First Six Weeks in the Books

Attention Sycamore Springs Middle School Families: This is the Sycamore Springs Weekly Update for 9-29-17.

First Six Weeks in the Books

Time is flying by. Today marked the last day of our first six weeks of school. Monday we will begin a new grading period and teachers will be submitting final grades for the First Six Weeks on Tuesday. I can’t imagine having a better start to the opening of our new campus. Our students have been so positive and engaged every day. Our teachers have been designing and facilitating lessons that bring about student creativity, collaboration, and a great deal of innovation. As we move into the second six weeks, the curriculum will surely be more challenging. Much of the first six weeks included review of skills previously learned. For this reason, it will be important for students to stay in front of their daily assignments. Tutorials are Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 8:55 a.m. Please speak with your child frequently about what they are learning in school and what assignments they have coming up. We are using the student planner for the students to record projects, assignments, and tests. Most importantly, let’s keep those attendance numbers super high. Let’s ride the momentum from this excellent start through the next six weeks and beyond!

Math Pentathlon

Dear Parents,

We are ready to start Math Pentathlon at SSMS. Math Pentathlon is open to 6th and 7th grade students that enjoy playing games and are interested in math. Students will learn to collaborate and work together as a team and build math fluency at the same time. Our practices will be weekly from 7:15 am until 8:15 am beginning in October and lasting until our Tournament on Saturday, May 12, 2018. October practices will be on Mondays with the exception of October 9, which is a student holiday. We will practice then on Tuesday, October 10. Practices will move to Thursdays for November and December. Parent volunteers are crucial to Math Pentathlon success. We will need parents to help out at weekly practices and then will need one parent per child to be a game monitor at the tournament. If your child is interested in participating, please sign them up by October 4 with the attached link. Be sure to check out our web page on the SSMS website under Extracurricular Activities. You can also sign up from there as well. Please email Paula Mathews at if you have questions.
