BARTONBOTICS!

First Lego League - Coming to Barton Community Ed

Information and Registration

First Lego League for Barton students began two years ago prompted by Barton families and a local software consulting company wanting to promote science, math and technology in a fun hands-on approach. After two years of growing the program off-site, they are excited to be partnering with Community Education to spread the opportunity to other Barton students.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

“First Lego League creates student interest in science, math, and technology by encouraging teamwork, initiative, self-confidence, and appreciation of diversity”.

Teams meet twice per week from mid Sept to mid November, attending a regional tournament where they are judged in three areas:

1)Robot design and programming

2)Research and presentation of innovative solution to world problem

3)Core Values

TEAM INFO

Teams are composed of two volunteer parent (or teacher) coaches and 6 students per team ages9 to 14 (4th to 8th grade). Coaches must complete background check with FLL to participate.

  • NOTE:While FLL allows up to 10 students per team, we limit the number to 6 students per team to allow equal hands-on opportunity for all team members.
  • Number of teams is dependent on number of coaches! VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED! Coaches do not need to be experts. According to First Lego League Core Values, coaches support students’ learning and facilitate collaboration, but DO NOT do the work. This is a great opportunity to learn along with students and have fun!
