  1. Meeting called to Order at 6:45 pm by Marija Burazin,new Principal, who welcomed

everyone to the meeting, gave a brief introduction of herself and thanked parents for coming

  1. Review of School Council Roles & By-laws – Marija Burazin outlined the Election

procedures and process, Ministry legislation, roles and responsibilities of School Councils

and executive positions.

  1. Administration Update: Marija Burazin

- It is always welcoming to hear from parents as we need their input

- Will have student reps at next meeting

- Paid Civvies raised over $500.00 for Sickle Cells

- October 12 - Grade 8s Open House

- October 19 – Civvies Day, Barbeque and music outside

- Plan to have Civvies days measured and balanced – changing from Fridays

- Halloween event will take place – students to wear costumes (guideline update on web)

- Current uniform does notinclude sweater – looking at long sleeve zipped down sweater

(sample displayed) Spoke with Carlos Rios of McCarthy - not available for this school year

- Other Loyola Spirit gears can only be worn on designated days

- Armory (Tuck Shop) will open soon –hope to also open after hours

- October 26 – Parents/Teachers Night and Used Uniform Sale – items to be sold for $5.00

- Backpacks: Stuff coming in backpacks is a concern for the school – moving towards

backpack not permitted in class - Clarification of the backpack practice to be put on website

and special cases to be discussed

- Will be addressing problem of parents parking in the “Drive Thru” lane

7. Chaplain Update: by Teresa McFadden

  • Opening school Mass celebrated by Fr. Charles of the Parish
  • Retreats for Religion classes have started
  • Follow me on Twitter feed: @Loyola chapel
  • Chaplaincy Club- 2 students per homeroom class – over 100 students – hope to get Spirit

Sweater for the club

  • Will hold Grade 9 Chapel Orientation to introduce students to traditions and practices of the

Catholic faith and the sacred space of our chapel

  • Parents would like an evening with Br. Don Lackman SJ to walk through the Spiritual Exercises

– this to be done during Catholic Education Week

  • Pastoral Plan is being finalized and will be posted on school’s website be end of October

8. School Council Update:Rita Reid/Marilyn Gomes

  • Applied for Pro-Grant of $900.00 for 50 parents – Financial Literacy event to be decided on

9. Trustee Update: by Sharon Hobin

  • Overview of Fact Sheet
  • Technology Grant lasted 2 years – more chrome books and smart boards in classrooms
  • Class Sizes - 30 students in Kindergarten class is too big – to be reduced
  • “State of the Art” school opened in Brampton
  • York Board short $5 million and will be laying off Educational Resource personnel
  • Transportation cost over last 2 years has been very -needs budget increase to facilitate
  • Attention to address bussing issues – last year was terrible but more drivers hired this year, just a few late buses being dealt with

Dates for upcoming Meetings: November 6th, December 4th- Social, February 5th, April 9th, June 4th - Social
