Firestien Creativity Studies Scholarship

Center for Studies in Creativity

Purpose:

The purpose of the Firestien Creativity Studies Scholarship is to provide financial support for graduate education in Creative Studies.

Eligibility:

Any full or part time graduate major actively enrolled in the Master of Science degree program at the Center for Studies in Creativity who has a 3.0 grade average.

Application Process:

• Complete an application form (available from Center for Studies in Creativity office)

• Provide a 2-3 page letter of request that describes why you think you should be considered for the scholarship. Letter must include:

- explanation of financial need;

- one example of uniqueness in your class work;

- examples of how you have applied creativity or creative problem solving in your personal or professional life; and

- goals and aspirations after degree.

Criteria for Selection:

• timeliness of submission;

• completeness of submission;

• meets general eligibility requirements

• articulation of need, quality of work , and applications of creativity.

Evaluation Process:

The selection committee, consisting minimally of Dr. Firestien and Dr. Puccio (CSC Director and Department Chair), will review all applications and letters of qualification and notify the recipients. Concurrently, the Chair of the Selection Committee or a designee will advise the Buffalo State College Foundation in writing of the name, address, and social security number of the recipients and provide a brief summary of the recipients’ qualifications in order to initiate disbursement of funds.

Available Funds & Awards:

Five hundred dollars per awardee (two per year) is available. Submissions will be accepted no later than November 30 of each calendar school year, and two recipients will be announced in January of the next semester. Upon notification of the award, recipients should provide written acknowledgment to Dr. Firestien.
