Role: Trainee Customer Services/ Assistant Laboratory Technician

Reports to:Commercial Manager / Production Services Team Leader

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE

To provide a professional and efficient service to Avacta Animal Health Customers and to support the laboratory teams in daily activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role offers cross- departmental training and includes responsibilities within the Customer Services team and Laboratory Teams. Full training will be provided.

Customer Service

  • Data entry of submission forms, immunotherapy orders etc. onto database
  • Liaison with laboratory for queries
  • Processing of lab results, including data merge, printing, Quality Control , compilation of client packs and transmission to vets (efax, email, post)
  • Preparation of submission boxes and literature for vet practices
  • Processing of vaccine orders
  • Checking and maintaining of database systems
  • Accurate record keeping regarding phone logs, new customers
  • Stock Control of products & literature
  • Management of daily and weekly courier and post requirements
  • Answering the phone professionally and promptly to customers, contacting customers by phone, fax or email where necessary, in order to process orders quickly and correctly
  • Process invoices on accounts system (SAGE) including data entry, QC, print and post
  • Liaise with Business Support team regarding accounts queries, credit control
  • Quality checking of invoicing to ensure good financial audit

Laboratory

  • Prepare routine buffers and solutions for Production Services and Assay Development teams,
  • Assist laboratory team in manufacturing of the in-house tests components and bulk kit reagents,
  • Support laboratory teams in maintaining cleanliness of the laboratory areas and regular glassware dishwashing,
  • Perform routine ELISAs as per established methods and procedures when required,
  • Complete fridges and freezers inventories as required,
  • Book routine testing samples and R&D samples to LIM system/ Excel spreadsheet.

Person Specification

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, email and internet
  • Experience in Customer Services or related industries, having a positive, professional and helpful manner at all times with customers
  • Very good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, multi-task and work both independently and as a team member
  • Attention to detail
  • Tidy, efficient and process good housekeeping skills regarding filing, paperwork and administration
  • To have the desire to learn, develop personal skills and knowledge for the benefit of self, customers and the business. To share learning and assist others in training and development
  • Willingness to go the extra mile in order to achieve the best possible customer satisfaction
  • Be open to change and innovation in order to drive the business forwards and improve efficiency, performance and profit
  • Be helpful and interactive with customers and other company staff, keep calm under pressure and present a positive attitude to people and in dealing with situations

Some background in science or experience gained as laboratory technician would be an advantage.
